Novice Award To Singers HELPING PAWS Happy members of McHenry Sweet Adelines return from weekend in St. Louis. From top to bottom, they are Nina Buikema, Director Pat Gattone, Adeline Chaps and Vonnie Wynveen. The McHenry chapter of Sweet Adelines returned home late Sunday night, May 4, tired but very excited after a weekend at regional com­ petition in St. Louis, Mo. Their only comments were "I can't believe it!" Tears of joy and screams of happiness filled the auditorium when it was an­ nounced that McHenry chapter had won the 1975 Regional Novice award. To be eligible for the novice award traveling trophy a chapter must be a chorus in competition for the first time or must not have been in com­ petition for three years prior. The other eligible choruses were well established and experienced. The honor was doubled since it was a new experience for McHenry to perform before an audience of 2,500 people and a panel of judges. McHenry chorus chose brilliant orange, green and gold clown costumes, complete with full face clown makeup. They sang "Laugh Clown Laugh" and "Let Me Sing and I'm Local Veterans Aided By Annual Poppy Sale More than one half of the net proceeds received from the sale of Buddy Poppies remains in this community to meet the calls from needy veterans. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4600 and the Ladies auxiliary advised the public of this fact in announcing plans for the an­ nual sale of poppies on the streets of McHenry. The post maintains a relief fund into which is placed all net ^profits received from the sale of poppies. -This fund is Happy". Besides winning the novice award they placed seventhteenth in competition. The "Happy Times Four" quartet was pleased to placed sixthteenth in quartet com­ petition. The selections they chose to sing were "Pal of My Cradle Days" and "Hello My Baby". available to meet any calls for from local veterans. The V.F.W. National Home for Widows and Orphans at Eaton Rapids, Mich., receives part of its operating funds from this sale.
