In the second game Saturday, the Warriors wasted no time by getting 2 in the top of the first. In the top of the 4th Tony Christy's single knocked in two more, and the Warriors managed to get another pair in the top of the 7th. Tommy Ludwig went the distance for the win, and although not as sharp as usual, still had enough to put down the Streaks. The win broke a four year jinx that the Streaks held over the Warriors in District play. Last Thursday the Warriors defeated Richmond v 8 to 2 behind the five hit pitching of Dave Wickenkamp. On Friday night in a makeup game the Warriors defeated Grant a to 2 behind the nifty pitching of Tony Christy. Moving, Blonde female "Schnoodle" 2 years old. The cold day, an extreme hazard for some of us, I add this poem: If the pleasure lies in hitting the ball, And in seven a hole you do Then I, who have played fourteen in all, Have had twice as much fun as you. OKay gals - Better weather is coming. --Adapted from PTA magazine In Have A Good Day Via Farmers Almanac You Have Come a Long Way, Baby! Since mentioning Lou Ben-4 ding, former baseball great in these parts, several people have asked about him. You can drop him a line at 1600 Glen Eagle Drive, Kokomo, Ind. Betcha he will answer. Walt Freund says that Lou is still sharp as a tack. A reminder from Dick Rabbitt brought us down to McCracken Field Saturday to see the McHenry Warrior baseball team beat Woodstock 6-2 in a good game. Hadn't had the chance to see high school baseball in several years and was surprised at the improvement in the way they play the game. High school players have long left much desired in their hitting, as witnessed by many no-hit games, but these fellows have learned to step into the ball and give it a ride. Good coaching seems evident. The Warriors have four bat girls. Didn't get their names. Student Manager Bomar was the busiest fellow in the park. He even offered us a cup of water. Service deluxe. Coach Ken Swanson has put together a good team. Of course Dick Rabbitt, who coached the boys as sophomores, takes the credit! All in fun. PICKUPS: None are so old as those who have outlived enthusiasm. Don't talk to me while I'm interrupting. The person who can't lead and won't follow makes a dandy roadblock. Warriors Vs. (STAFF PHOTO-W A YNE GAYLORD) Stock Car Racing Auto race fans were treated to a wild time Saturday night (May 10) at the Kenosha County Speedway in Wilmot as a fast track and large field of drivers combined to provide an evening punctuated with spins, flips and multi-car pileups. The only serious mishap of the evening occurred during qualifying trials. The throttle on the super modified racer of Jerry Reinhard of McHenry, sent the car hurtling through the guard rail and cyclone fence at the end of the back straightaway. Reinhard escaped injury, but a 20-year-old woman of suburban Chicago suffered a broken collar bone and head injuries. She was a member of the pit crew of another driver. In the sportsman feature, Duke Norton of Wonder Lake, edged his brother, Sid, of McHenry, out on the final straightaway to win his second feature race of the young season. Duke started on the inside in the sixth row and by the end of the third lap, he wa£ running in third position, and displaying a daredevil driving style which includes passing anywhere on the track and taking slower cars on the inside, the outside and even between cars. The "dummies" used for the life saving demonstration were donated by the McHenry Area Jaycees and the Johnsburg Community Club. That was nice. We learned that time is all important in saving a life. The know-how can be learned if you take the time. God Bless all Rescue Squad workers.
