EARL WALSH So I Hear SPORTS EDITOR. In discussing the long winter with Aileen Pictor, we got around to persons who are shut- ins. We talked about how people should call on those persons confined to their homes during those long wintry months. It was Aileen who came up with the thought that older people would enjoy visits from young people. Sounds good. Please keep it in mind, you young folks, and find the time to go a-visitin'. The joy you will bring to others will be a great reward. Just watched the Orioles beat our Sox 3-2 in a tight ball game. Great game if we had won. Jim Katt's neat 12-game winning streak was broken. Others should do so good. If this isn't a sports lovin' community, we don't know where you will find one. DAVE WICKENKAMP goes into the windup during the McHenry victory over Hebron. Dave captured his fourth win against one defeat as he threw a one hitter against the Green Giants, striking out 11 while giving up 2 walks. MAIN ST. McHENRY Ph. 385-4600 losed Monday May 26 for Memorial Day. OPEN SATURDAY TILL 4 Drove around one night and found activity all over the area. Of course, high school spring sports have bunched up to a point where even Dick Rabbitt (the man in motion) has to go full speed ahead to keep up. Down Center Street the small playground was busy. Older fellows were teaching some very young boys how to play baseball. Other kids were on the swings and slides. Some just ran around like young colts. The tennis courts in the park were busy. And the young ones kept the playground equipment in action. the air this spring. Our only concern in driving around was to see some drivers sailing along too fast for con ditions - especially where young children were playing. Coach Ken Swanson's Warrior baseball team clob bered Hebron 11-1 in the district finals here Monday night. Now for the regional game on Saturday against Barrington. Watch your sport's page for more details. Thinking back about that Clay Hole on Center St. When we were young, the story was spread that it had no bottom. The water was so deep that if you fell in you would go all the way to China. Thinclads At Rock ford Friday In District Meet By Dick Rabbitt Coach Wally Scott will take his track team to Rockford tonight to participate in the Illinois High School District Track Meet. The meet will be held at Auburn high school. This year because of the division of classes, the Warriors head West instead of going to Prospect high school. This is indeed a break for the Warriors. The Rockford schools, plus Dixon, Rochelle, DeKalb, and the other com peting schools do not have indoor facilities, and thus the Warriors will be starting even with these schools. In the past the suburban schools that the Warriors competed against, all had some type of indofcr facilities, and the schools that didn't were at a great disadvantage. The Warriors have some contenders to qualify for-the state finals next weekend in Charleston. If Ev Klapperich is hale and hearty he could make it down state for the third straight year in the sprints. George Hansen and Scott Freund have a chance in the pole vault. John Mclnerney surely has a chance in the mile run. The qualifying time is 4; 29, and John has broken that his last two times out. Tim Talbot could go again in the 880 yd run, and Brett Decker needs to add a couple of feet to make it in the discus. The Warriors could also qualify a relay team. We'll be there pulling for the Warriors to come through and send some boys down to the state finals. Preliminaries start at 3:30 p.m. and the finals start at 7:30 p.m. ROUTE TO AUBURN FOR DISTRICT MEET The easiest way to Rock ford Auburn is to take Rt. 173 to Rt. 51 in Rockford. Go South on Rt. 51 to Auburn Ave. Turn right on Auburn Ave., and proceed to Auburn high school. Frosh In Third Place Tie In Mustang Relays By Dick Rabbitt The McHenry high freshmen track team tied for third place in the Mustang Relays held at Mundelein last Friday af ternoon. North Chicago was the winner, with Crown finishing second, and the Warriors and Libertyville in a third place tie. Sfwanson Sluggers Win District Baseball Title By Dick Rabbitt After seven long years the McHenry Warriors baseball team of Coach Ken Swanson finally won a district baseball championship. On Monday they defeated Hebron 11 to 1 in six innings for the title. Dave Wickenkamp went all the way allowing only 1 hit and striking out 11 for his 4th win of the year. The Warriors in the meantime pounded out 11 hits for the win. The Warriors scored early. Wickenkamp walked, a double by Tommy Ludwig, followed by a single by Bill Jaskowiak put two runs across in the first inning. The Warriors picked up single tallys in the third *and fourth, to lead 4 to 0. In the 5th Christy doubled, followed by Wickenkamp's double. Randy McCafferty then singled Wickenkamp home. Jaskowiak then singled, Ray Williams walked, and McCafferty scored on an error by the third baseman. Leading 9 to 1 in the bottom of the sixth, the Warriors won the game. After two out, Ludwig and McCafferty both singled, Jaskowiak then walked to fill the bases. Ray Williams hit a ball to right field for a double, driving in Ludwig and Mc Cafferty with the winning runs. With the win the Warriors advance to the Elgin Regional where they will play Barrington Saturday at 2 p.m. BOX SCORE ab r h Christy 2b 4 2 2 Wickenkamp p 3 2 1 Ludwig 3b 3 2 2 McCafferty If 4 2 2 Jaskowiak lb 3 12 Williams rf 3 2 2 Damiani ss 10 0 Himpelmanncf 2 0 0 Wakitsch c 3 0 0 Total McHenry 2 0 1 1 4 3 x 11 11 3 Hebron 0 0 0 0 1 0 0 1 1 2 Scott County Track Meet A1 Reinboldt was voted the outstanding performer at the meet. McHenry Country Club It could very well have been called the Gene Stilling tour nament instead of the McHenry Spring tournament. In the second and final round of the tournament played at the club on Sunday, May 11, Gene Stilling and his partner Ed Ray were low for the day at 14 under par. The final results of the 36 hole tournament found Gene Stilling and Sal Lupo on top at 22 under par. It was my pleasure to be in a foursome on Saturday, May 10 and watch Ed Aja get a hole in one on the ninth hole at McHenry Country club. Ed used a six wood for his first hole in one and seemed to go into shock as his first three shots on number ten barely reached the creek. However he did recover after that to shoot his usual steady game. Our congratulations to Ed and hope this rubs off on his neighbor to the south. May 18 will be member-guest day at the club followed by the 2 day Memorial day special on May 25 and 26. Members look for sign up sheets for this event. Galilee, the area and the sea in Palestine, gets its name from the Hebrew word GALIL, meaning to TO AROUND. For centuries, the Jews went around this area, rather than across it, because it was inhabited by gentiled. 1971 AUSTIN AMERICA 4 SP.t FRONT WHEEL DRIVE RADIAL TIRES.
