The Ladies auxiliary to V.F.W. Post 4600 was among the organizations that were given special recognition, this for the many volunteer hours spent there by members of the auxiliary. Shown above are Dora Krocker, who received a pin designating over 1500 hours; Mary Kuemmel who received a pin designating over 1,750 hours, and Lucille Garifi, president, who received a special recognition award for the auxiliary. Other members of the auxiliary who were recognized for their volunteer hours were Ua Hogan, 388 hours; Patricia Spoto, 282 hours; Ethel Hagberg, 1,527 hours and Alyce Kowal, 3,700 hours. Lakemoor-Lilymoor Alma Hueckstaedt 385-5689 Tickets Available For Bicentennial Celebration May 31 Have you made your plans to attend the festivities scheduled for May 31 yet? If not, why not? Tickets are available at most business places in Lakemoor, or you may purchase them from any of the trustees or from me. Each ticket per person en titles you to see the talent show, the Junior Miss Lakemoor contest and the crowning of the winner, also the dance which brings the day to a close. For those of you who perhaps by a very rare chance really don't know what I am talking about, Lakemoor committees have gone to a lot of work to organize the plans for May 31 for your fun and enjoyment, so get your tickets to make all their work and efforts wor thwhile. A SUCCESSFUL SALE When a bake sale takes place, it is very hard to decide which group of people is more responsible for the success of the project, those who donate their baked goodies, or those who go out and buy those goodies? Once it is organized then the credit is sort of split down the middle, but on the other hand if a committee of people didn't organize and get donations all lined up for. it, then the buyers would have nothing to buy so I believe the committee for the Junior Miss Lakemoor contest are grateful for the donations and the workers and the folks that bought and ate the goodies because the proceeds are going to purchase the crown and other gifts to be presented to the winner of the Junior Miss contest. AWARD WON I really should say earned. Alyce Kowal was presented with a certificate for 3,000 hours as a senior volunteer and she earned a pin for 3,700 hours which were put in over a six year period of time. Alyce is a member of the V.F.W. Women's Auxiliary No. 4600 on Rte. 120 in McHenry. There were 275 in attendance at the awards presentation, over eighty volunteers were presented with certificates and forty-one were awarded pins. Our local V.F.W. Women's Auxiliary have 43,000 volunteer hours to their credit at Downey Veterans hospital; for which they are all very proud. BIRTHDAYS On May 15 Richard Hyatt celebrated his natal day, on May 16 John Schelle celebrated his, on the seventeenth Mary, Wilson added another year to her collection, on May 20* Patrick Heald and Shawnda Dawdy shared that date as their birthdate. Larry Withrow will celebrate on May 21, on the twenty-fourth Marge Evans and Guy Gam share that date; on the twenty-sixth Valli Hager will become all of 5 years old, and Roger Garbacz will be 15 (about halfway through the teens) on the twenty-seventh, that ends the birthdays for the month of May, and I hope each of you have a real great bir thday. ANNIVERSARIES On May 27 We have two couples who can and in all probability will remember and think back on ail the events that happened on their wedding date. They are A1 and Marilyn Ryan, also Albert and Anita* Kunz. A very happy an niversary to both couples. DO YOU LOVE YOUR DOG? If any of you readers have a dog as a pet then you won't say that you don't love it and want to protect it from sickness or perhaps death. Have you had your dog tested for heartworm? No? Then now is the time to have it done. It has been brought to my at tention that there are and have been several cases of it in this area. The Ingrams of Lakemoor and the Lippert family in Lilymoor have both lost their dogs because of heartworm. On a happier note the Kropfs and the Huffman families have had their dogs treated and cured of it and our Peke-a-poo, will have to un dergo the treatment this week because we found out that she is infected with them. For those of you who haven't heard about heartworm or don't know how it is tran smitted, the only w^y a dog becomes infected is by being bitten by mosquitoes. The mosquitoes transmit heart- CRRPET REMNRNTS OVER 1,000 5PECIRLS CHOOSE FROM LEES, KARASTAN BIGELOW, MOHAWK, CABIN CRAFTS, ALEXANDER SMITH, ALDON TREND EVANS & BLACK AND MANY MORE! If there are mosquitoes present, the potential for the disease is present. The principle signs of the infection is a deep cough, difficult breathing, their fur takes on a dull unkempt look, and the dog tires very easily. Some dogs don't show any symptoms as I don't believe ours had any drastic symptoms and ours is a house dog and even that did not protect her. The veterinarian is the only person who can diagnose heartworm and treat it or prescribe a preventative if the tests are negative. In case you are wondering how the test is done, when you take your dog in, to the vets, a small amount of blood is taken and then it is tested, all in all it is a very simple test and every dog owner should take the time for the test on their dogs. CONDOLENCES Mr. and Mrs. Roy Tobey attended the funeral of Roy's rother-in-law, Edward Doscher of Florida. His body was brought to Chicago by his wife Florence to the Meiszer Chapel. Burial took place in Elmhurst. Others attending the funeral were Roy's other sisters and their husbands, Grace and Bert Wilson of Margate, Fla., and Sadie and George Engelbrecht of Park Ridge. The sympathy of the community goes out to you, Roy, for your loss. GET-WELL WISH To Harold Head who has been hospitalized on two occasions once in Harvard and then in Waukegan for problems with his back. Glad to hear that he is feeling quite a bit better and he will soon be back to work if he isn't already. See you next week.
