Actually, LeGoo has just received the throw from the outfield and Williams has an easy triple and the ump is taking a good look in case of a close play. The Warriors won this final game of the district tourney to capture the championship. Last Saturday they lost to Barrington in the regional. Told her all that was left was to write a column and asked her for some ideas. i "You could write about your garden," said little Helen. So. Our asparagus bed is coming along nicely. Rhubarb is back. Many seasons are too long in our way of thinking, but each one is out to grab an extra buck. We hardly know our old West side stamping grounds anymore. This week another life long West Sider, Lisle Bassett, was called from this earth. Lisle's grandpa and grand ma Bassett and his parents lived on Main St., when we were young sprouts. Bassett is a respected name in the history of McHenry. It seemed that Lisle and his wife spent many happy days in his retirement. As Grandma Freund used to say, "Now he has gone to a better place." Jim McAndrews called at the Plaindeaelr office Wednesday morning looking bouncy after his bout with illness. You might get a spirited Irishman like Jim down, but you can't count him out. Sports writers are a fickle lot. They sang the praises of the Cubs until they slipped in a couple of games. Wow! Those same writers were ready to bury the team. Not very loudly, but even S.I.H. had to admit that the North Siders were playing good, aggressive baseball. Over their heads? Maybe. If our Sox had the same record, you would hear some noise from this corner. But, the season is young and hopefully our boys can turn it around before we have to say "Wait 'til next year." If this rain doesn't let up, we never will get at our yard work. Ken Diedrich was asking about our garden. Who told him? Help! No names - no way are they going on the sports page. THINKING BACK - It was back in the days when men wore garters. We dressed up in a new suit and drove to Crystal Lake where we strolled along the platform waiting for a train to take us to Chicago. Thought we were getting a lot of looks from the waiting crowd, but thought they must be admiring our new suit. It wasn't until we boarded the train that we discovered one pant leg hiked up and caught in our garter. Broncs Do It Again! Beat Warriors 7-1 Thinclads Close Out Fine Season With Win Over Crystal Lake Well the Barrington Broncos did it again to our Warriors, when they defeated them Tuesday 7 to 1 at Barrington. The Broncos jumped off to 7 runs in the first two innings and that was enough, as the Warriors picked up their only run rh the top of the third. Tommy Ludwig went the distance and took the loss. The Warriors now stand at 18 and 6 for the season. In second place was Jim Gillette, followed by A. Skifano, a guest of Larry Piklar, and finishing fourth was Jack Pepping, a guest of Ron Wilkins. The first round of the Directors Tournament will start on June 1. Members, you still have time to sign up for this event. Word has it mat Tom Bolger had a 39 on the first nine last Saturday, which really shook up the long hitters in the foursome. First Varsity match in singles for sophomores Sean By Dick Rabbitt Coach Wally Scott's McHenry High track squad closed out a very successful season on Monday as they whipped Crystal Lake 79 to 52 in a dual meet at McHenry. Brett Decker winning the shot and discus, and Loren Klap- perich winning the 220 and 440 were the meets only double winners. In a rare occasion both 880 relays teams were disqualified, for taking the baton beyond the passing zone. It was a fun meet for the Warriors as the coaching staff juggled the lads into various events for a little variety in the last meet of the season. John Mclnerney didn't run the mile, as Coach Scott trying to build up his speed for the coming state finals this weekend, en tered John in the 880 and 440. In the frosh-soph meet the Tigers won by a score of 63 to 58, giving the locals their first defeat of the season. Both Warrior squads finished the season with 12 and 1 records.
