Bumper Crop Leads To John Church Will Work With Extension Service Expanded Wheat Feeding John Church, a University of Illinois student, will be working with the McHenry County Cooperative Extension service in Woodstock, this summer. John is from Boone county, where he was a very active nine-year 4-H member and two- year 4-H Leader. His project work in 4-H included Sheep, Dairy, Crops, Photography, Gardening and Home Im provement. John was secretary for his local 4-H club for three years and Boone county 4-H Federation president. He was senior class president at Belvidere high school, FFA chapter president and reporter, and a member of the National Honor society. At Kishwaukee Junior college, John was a member of the Student Senate, and parliamentarian in the Agriculture Student Transfer club. At the University of Illinois, John is a very active Cooperation Extension club member. He will be assisting with the Cooperative Extension programs in McHenry county throughout the summer as part of his college curriculum. John hopes to pursue a career in Extension work. The Department of Agriculture's Economic Research Service has projected a 2.1 billion bushel wheat crop- compared with last year's record-high 1.8 billion bushels- in the wheat situation. The record crop would set the stage for an expansion in wheat feeding for cattle. Also, likelihood that wheat prices could vie with feed grain prices around harvest-time could hasten the trend toward wheat feeding. Although wheat prices precluded much feeding before the turn of the year, the January-March feeding residual-84 million bushels- was much higher than ex pected, and it appears that wheat feeding may be higher than expected in the April-June quarter also. The report said the record 1,620 million bushel winter wheat crop, plus spring wheat, may cause 1975's total wheat crop to break the 2 billion bushel mark. Although wheat stock presently stand at the lowest levels in a quarter century, the 1975 crop may push the supply to 2.3 billion bushels. However, wheat disappearance should remain quite strong. Domestic use for food, feed and seed should run from 784 to 809 million bushels. Exports will again break the billion bushel mark, and may run as high as 1,200 million bushels. The carryover on July 1, 1976, may run in the 393 to 448 million bushel range. This would be well above the 236 million bushels projected for this July 1, but significantly below carryovers in the late 1960's and early 1970's. PET COLUMN LOST Reward offered.
