That first breath of icy cold air in the morning, the smell of fresh fish frying over a camp- fire, the patter of rain against a tent, watching deer venture timidly out of the woods -- these were exper­ iences shared by only a few. The sheer physical difficulties inherent in reaching remote wilderness areas, as well as the skill and ex­ perience required for camping in the wild, denied the thrill of vacationing in the outdoors to most families. Expanding enjoyment of heritage But in recent years, that situation changed. Thanks to the accessibility afforded by a special type of trans­ portation system -- recreation vehicles, or "RVs" -- many more Americans have enjoyed their heritage of forests, lakes, mountains, streams, and deserts. RVs are not merely automobiles; rather, they are professionally engineered vehicles that combine living quarters with transporta­ tion. But in order to justify ownership among most families in today's econ­ omy, recreation vehicles must provide practicality as well as mobility.
