"EARL WALSH So I Hear SPORTS EDITOR I We lost a friend and one of our faithful readers this week, Lora Sprouse. Lora grew up at Smith's lers near Ringwood and ' most of her life in these .o A real native. Wh * was in Florida c. in <•. ~ent home in the ton, she remen. erfd o ^.id en- courageineni to uus column. We owed Lora a letter and planned tr rite it this week. Instead attended her funeral services. Anyhow, we will remember her as a friend who showed us kindness since we were young. Had a chance for a brief hello with Mrs. Frank (Marian)- Justen at the Sprouse funeral. Back to the old home town from the far west, she was sitting with her relatives in Whiting row. Maybe it is afternoon games. Maybe the beautiful vines that attract crowds to Wrigley field. Sports writers have con cluded that fans go to the beautiful park for en tertainment. Wonder what they mean? If you have ever thought of pigs as lowly animals, just walk along a meat counter and see the price of bacon. Dan Justen (he's not one of our White Sox clan) greeted us with, "I suppose you will be moving to the state of Washington". Then he proceeded to tell us what nice country it is out there. Of course, he was referring to the rumor that the Sox would move to Seattle and Charlie Finley would bring his Oakland A s to Chicago. Quite a story, but no1 ody thought to consult Owner John Allyn about the move. It wasn't until this week that Emily Rees was cleared upon something that happened 40 years ago. Emily thought that Yours Truly used to stand under an upstairs window ' and toss pebbles against a pane to let Alvina know of our arrival. It was two other people. Holy smokers! No Romeq wis this fella.
