An derson (R-Il l . ) has announced that Caspar Weinberger, Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare has agreed to reconsider a previous decision on Il l inois Health Planning areas, including McHenry county. According to Anderson, the secretary promised to "do everything possible within the law" to give favorable con sideration to an Il l inois proposal on the subject . Anderson and other members Of the Il l inois Congressional delegation met with Wein berger in the Capitol July 24. The Representat ives expressed their unified approval of a state plan which would form six Health Service areas in nor theastern Il l inois. These planning areas could coor dinate al l federal funds relat ing to health, mental health, alcoholism and drug abuse. HEW officials had previously favored a plan grouping eight suburban and rural counties with the ci ty of Chicago. "The plan submitted by the state of I l l inois, which has been previously rejected by the department, takes into account the different composit ion of the counties in the area. I t has the support of local health officials and physicians. To me it seems vastly preferable to lumping McHenry county and others with the ci ty of Chicago in a vast bureaucratic behemoth," said Anderson.
