Young, Ex­ tension Adviser, Agriculture, McHenry county) Council Reorganizes - The Agriculture Extension council of the University of Illinois Cooperative Extension Service welcomed four new members, -and elected officers at the August meeting. New members are Ed Gourley, Woodstock; Steve Johnson, Hebron; Henry Marlowe, Huntley; and Charles McKee, Marengo. Dick Stoxen, Harvard, is the new council chairman; Dave Gardner, Solon Mills, is vice-chairman, and Steve Johnson is secretary. Other members of the council are Don Ahrens, Harvard; Gail Harms, Crystal Lake; .Pete Reiland and Keith Weingart, McHenry; and Owen Richardson, Spring Grove./'" Members are appointed to this council by Dr. J.B. Control Ants - Ants can be a nuisance in your home or lawn unless they are properly controlled. Ants come in a variety of sizes, shapes and colors, and can be found in many locations around your home and yard. Ants often live in colonies or nests usually located in the soil alongside a house foundation or in your yard. Occasionally, however, they may nest under the concrete slab or in the crawl space of your«»hOme. Ants feed on seeds, insects and other materials. Some species feed on grasses; others, on sugars. Aphid attendants, another ant species, transport aphids or plant l ice from plant to plant and use secretions from aphids as their food. Ants may become so numerous in lawns and gardens that they become a nuisance outdoors as ell as indoors. The most satisfactory and safest method of controlling ants is to use 1-percent chlordane as a water-diluted foundation spray. Apply the spray to the point of run-off to the outside foundation of your house from the soil area up to the sill . Also spray a two-to-six- inch strip of soil alongside the foundation. Crawl-space areas may need treatment if the ants are entering your house from there. A repeat application may be necessary six weeks to two months later. The least expensive method is to buy chlordane as an emulsifiable concentrate and dilute it to the proper strength with water. One cup of 45- 7 Constitution, By Lpws Adopted By American Party At a called meeting of the American Party of McHenry county which was held at the American Legion hall in Huntley1 Aug. 19, a constitution ana by-laws were adopted for the newly formed organization. Plans for future meetings were discussed and a date sometime during the third week of the month will be set. Programs of interest to the community will be offered at each meeting so that education, percent chlordane diluted with 24 gallons of water makes a 1- percent chlordane spray. Two or three gallons of diluted spray will treat •* an average-sized house. Applications must be thorough. Be sure to spray all the way around the house, behind concrete steps, and into any cracks or crevices of concrete slab^ that abut the foundation.
