Local Couple Honored At Car Club Convention The Kaiser Frazer Owners Club International held its seventeenth annual national convention in Monroeville, Pa., recently. The motto for the convention was "Twenty Years After", in honor of the last Kaiser-Frazer automobile built in the United States in 1955. It was at that time all production materials were moved to Argentina, where production was carried on until 1962, with the car design remaining the same as it was known here in the States, but carrying the name Carabella. The convention was attended by many of the 1,500 plus members located all over the United States (as well as in many foreign countries). In cluded were Ron and Lavergne Adams of McHenry. The new club president, Howard Johnston, hails from Hannibal, Mo., replacing Alan Payne of Bushnell, 111. The new vice-president. Jay Stokes, makes his home in Trafford. Pa., and replaced Bob Tem- pleton of Romeoville, 111. There were no changes in the posts of treasurer and secretary, presently filled by Ronald C. and Lavergne A. Adams respectively, of McHenry, 111. The retaining of Ron and Lavergne in their positions of treasurer and secretary was by unanimous votes from all who attended, followed by a stan ding ovation representing the members' vote of confidence in jobs well done in the per formance of their duties during the past two years in their term of office. Both Ron and Lavergne were presented with a beautiful plaque by the retiring officers as a "thank you" for the manner in which they managed the club operations and funds. The Adams' feel the over whelming tribute received from co-members and officers is a tribute to Ron's mother, Mrs. Clara K. Adams of Johnsburg, as • well as the residents of both the Johnsburg and McHenry areas in knowing that "people from our own back yard" are helping to keep a part of motoring history in the public for future generations to admire first hand as opposed to "word of mouth". Ron's car collection could be considered one of the finest and consists of some of the rarest Kaiser-Frazer cars ever built, not to mention first and second place trophy winners, as well as much praise and admiration from fellow members. Some of the cars in his collection are a 1948 Fordor Frazer; 1951 Golden Dragon; 1954 Tudor Early Kaiser Special (hard top). and a 1954 Fordor Kaiser Manhattan. The latest and rarest addition to Ron's collection, is the 1954 Kaiser Darrin Sports Roadster. This car was designed by "Dutch" Darrin for Kaiser-Frazer corp., and was built of fibreglass and featured doors which slide into the front fenders on tracks. A total of 435 units were built, and as of this writing, ap proximately 204 have been accounted for and are located throughout the continental United States. Ron's interest in these vehicles and their future stems from the fact that in 1946 (he was 10 years old), his father - Art M. Adams, and uncle, Art Klein of Fox Lake, currently a member of KFOCI, became Kaiser and Frazer dealers located in Fox Lake, and known as Fox Motor Sales. It is felt that during the next two-year term in office as treasurer and secretary, many more new members, as well as the units themselves, will be seen in the Mclleury- Johnsburg area. K.F O.C.I, has been honored by being presented with an invitation from Governor Walker, the Mayor, and the Chamber of Commerce of Springfield, to hold the 1977 annual convention of this not- for-profit organization in that city. Persons interested in seeing some of these fine cars will be able to do so at the Octoberfest Sept. 14, at Johnsburg. One need not be a K-F car owner. The main office will remain in McHenry at 705 North Lillian street for the next two years.
