Smorgasbord For Senior Citizens Set On Monday evening, Sept. 22, the McHenry Senior Citizens club will have its annual Fall smorgasbord dinner at 6:30 p.m. at East campus cafeteria, members unable to attend the dinner can come at 7:45 p.m. to enjoy the program to be presented by the club's kitchen band. The program for Monday, Oct. 13, will be presented by John R. Steele, chairman of the board of the Waukegan National bank, "Underwater Treasures of the Great Lakes". The program Monday, Oct. 27, will consist of the annual Art show under the direction of Alf Heggeland. There was an attendance of 225 at the meeting Monday, Sept. 8th, after which the members enjoyed card games. Frank Giel, Bowling chairman, reported he is very happy with the interest of the bowlers, and invited new members to come out and join in the fun. Mrs. Louise Giel will be collecting for the activities reservations, and all reser vations must be paid for promptly. Swimming for senior citizens is held at West campus every Thursday evening from 6 to 7 p.m. Registration is at the school administration office on Main street. Methodist Women Make Preparations For Fall Festival Plans are well under way for the fall festival and bazaar sponsored by the United Methodist women of the McHenry Methodist church. It will be held Oct. 16 at the church. Some of the booths featured at the bazaar include living things, Christmas, bakery, fish pond and almost antiques. There will be a silent auction. A luncheon will be served, followed by a musical program. A workshop is held on Tuesdays at the church, the next workshop being Sept. 23 at 10 a.m. Anyone interested in helping is invited to attend. Sheriffs Posse Plans Country Hoe-Down Oct. 4 The McHenry County Sheriff Posse will hold a "County Hoe- Down" dinner dance, Oct. 4, at Crystal Lake American Legion hall. There will be a "saloon hour" beginning at 7 p.m., followed by a family style dinner. An auctioneer will hold a country auction. The posse has other entertainment planned and dancing until 1 a.m. For tickets call Jim or Geri Messina, 385-7489. Advance tickets only. Spaghetti Dinner Planned At Lodge A spaghetti dinner will be served Wednesday, Sept. 24 at the McHenry Moose lodge, 2816 W. Rt. 120, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The sponsoring Women of the Moose promise a delicious spaghetti sauce topping for spaghetti, accompanied by salad and French bread. Tickets will be sold at the door, with adult and children's prices. The public is invited to attend. Highlands Club To Hear Dr. Andreas At the first Fall meeting of the Pistakee Highlands Woman's club, to be held Sat. 24 at 8 p.m. at the Community center, Dr. Duane Andreas of Johnsburg District 12 will be guest speaker. Refreshments will be served. At the October meeting, there will be a wine and cheese tasting party. Everyone is invited. Call 497-3182 for reservations. On Sept. 29, the first offical board meeting of District 4 will be held at the Whispering Oaks clubhouse, Front Royal street, McHenry. It starts at 10 a.m., with lunch to be served at noon. The Woman's club will pay for two members to attend. The year books are now in the process of being made up. There are many interesting programs planned for meeting nights and also a few programs for children. The first will be a pumpkin contest for com munity children Nov. 1. Demonstrations on weaving, table top cookery, sand crafting and other crafts are available. Each of the units will have a bazaar booth, plus plants, dried flower arrangement material, home canned jams, jellies, pickles, fresh eggs, garden produce, and home baked goods. The public is welcome. Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and snacks will be available all day. Babysitting service is available for a small fee. State Regent Speaks To Kishwaukee Trail DAR The Kishwaukee Trail chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will meet at the home of Mrs. Robert Bosman, 742 Sharon drive, Woodstock, at 11 a.m. Sept. 22. Mrs. J. Kennedy Kincaid, Jr., state regent of the Illinois organization, DAR, will be the guest of honor and will give a talk, "The Prairie State Speaks," following luncheon at 12:30. Mrs. Kincaid joined DAR in 1955 and has served her chapter two terms as regent in addition to her work on various other committees.She was state chairman of the Good Citizen committee and state registrar before being elected state regent in March, 1975. Mrs. Kincaid will continue in the capacity of state regent until March, 1977. During this Deriod of time, she will visit each of the 124 chapters located in Illinois. In addition to Mrs. Kincaid's talk at the September meeting, Mrs. Lester Edinger will discuss some aspects of early McHenry county organization as part of American heritage. Barbian, age 21, former resident of McHenry, was killed Friday afternoon when he accidentally came in contact with a high voltage wire in the Artificial Ice company in Chicago where he had been employed since April 1. Wesley Gibbs, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred W. Biggs, who resides on the Frank Wattles farm, west of McHenry, was the lucky holder of the key which unlocked the lock at Erickson's department store in West McHenry. Mr. Gibbs was awarded the Whitestone radio set which had been advertised would be presented to the one holding the right key. C.W. Stenger, local banker and realtor, reports the sale of the E.J. Thomas farm about three miles west of this city, on the Woodstock road, to C.C. O'Molley of Chicago. Hobart Karls, age 60, resident of Johnsburg, dropped dead of a heart attack at Pistakee Bay Tuesday af ternoon. , Donald Givens recently bought the Heimer building on the corner of Elm and Front streets. The members of the Sigma Beta Gamma club of Chicago enjoyed their first outing in McHenry last week when they visited in the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. Ritter. FORTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Sept. 19, 1935) More than 1500 gallons of milk were dumped near Rich mond Saturday afternoon by a group of farmers said to be from the Chicago milkshed in connection with the trouble which has been brewing at the Natoma dairy farm in Hin sdale. Margaret Nelson is opening dancing classes in K.C. hall, McHenry, Sept. 25. She will also teach a baby class from 3 to 6 years old. Ray McGee, postmaster of the McHenry postoffice, was host to the postmasters of the county at the regular meeting of the association at Niesen's restaurant. The Ringwood school was the first rural school in the county to add typewriting to its course of study. Miss Evelyn Karls, who is attending Moser Business college in Chicago, spent the weekend at her home on Riverside drive. Mildred and Howard Vasey, Caroline and Albert Wagner, with Chicago friends, spent Friday evening at the Aragon ballroom in Chicago where they enjoyed the music of Wayne King. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Sept. 28, 1950) Henry A. Schroeder, a resident of Fair Oaks sub division died Sept. 25 in the Woodstock hospital. He was 65 years of age and a retired machinist employed by the International Harvester company. The Gerald Miller family has moved from the Elmer Freund residence on Center street to their new home in Hanly subdivision southwest of the city. The place they have vacated will be occupied by Joseph W. Freund and sister, Mrs. Kathryn Barbian. A public school enrollment topping any in the history of McHenry county was revealed this past week by Superin tendent of Schools Richard Tazewell. The total has reached 7,937, 337 more than last year. A balloon released in Ad dison, 111., Sept. 10, was found Sunday in a slough back of Wonder Lake's Legion home by 16 year old Jack Tallman, son of the Warren Tallmans of Hickory Falls. It was a great day in the lives of Mr. and Mrs. Theodor Olsen of McCullom Lake when World War II came to an end for it meant that once again their empty house would echo with laughter of their three sons and one daughter, who had served their country in almost every branch of service. Parking meters may be in operation by next week. Primary purpose of the meters is for traffic regulations.
