Cost of living goes up. Like a teeter-totter. Remember way back when if you had a five dollar bill in your pocket you could take your best girl out Saturday night, feel financially sound, and come home with money in your pocket? Not many remember and only a few believe it. So now comes a football strike in the pro ranks. Players feel that if policeman, firemen, school teachers and garbage collectors can strike they can too. Most of us could survive for a while while other strikes are in progress, but when garbage piles up it is time for action. Football games? We like 'em, but can struggle along without them if necessary. Last year it was streaking that took the country by storm. This year it is striking. If you go past the McHenry Library, you will note that construction has started on the new addition. The present building has a lot of charm, but not enough space to meet the growing needs of the com munity. This is the time to give some serious thought about making a donation to the Library. Not only the building-- furnishings are needed and should b^ or dered now. We are sure there are people or organizations ready to provide some item that will last forever in the memory of those who realize the benefits of a good library. The time to act is now. Aren't some writers won derful! Especially TV critics. Now comes one know-it-all to write nothing but bad stuff about sports announcers. He had better take it easy with sports fans. We need those announcers until something better comes along. Top or Bottom A crew of workmen were building a house. After a lot of ac tivity, the foreman went to see the architect. "Say." he asked, "did you want this house built from the top down or from the bottom up?" "From the bottom up," was the astonished reply. "Okay." Then the foreman turn ed and yelled. "Tear er down, boys! We gotta start over." i i 1. The behavior of sound,' traveling through fog, is 1. Clearly defined 2. Most deceptive and unpredictable 3. Easily placed 4. None of the above 2. (STAFFPHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD) W arriors At Libertyville rsBiL^i Saturday Afternoon 1 news i By Dick Rabbitt The McHenry High Warrior fcrotball team travels to Libertyville tomorrow in quest of their third win of the season. To date the Warriors have defeated North Chicago 26 to 14, and last Friday night Dundee 18 to 13. Spirit has been running high in the Warrior camp this week, and from all reports the squad is in tip top shape for the weekend game. Coach Dale Christensen of the Wildcts has nine lettermen returning from last years 2 and 7 team that finished seventh in the North Suburban. Mark Haas a 6'2" 215 lb. fullback and Mike Lindal a 6'0" tailback are the only regular returning backs for the Cats this season. Lindal started the season at quarterback but since then has been shifted to tailback.. The interior of the Cat line are all veterans, among them Gordon Blue a 5'11" 185 lbs. Roger Thomas 5'10" 160. Greg Gulsvig a 6'2" 200 lb. end. Two transfers, Noel Erickson and Glen Frank, both have seen plenty of action in the first two games. The inexperienced Warriors have shown great improvement over the past two weeks. The surprise play of the line in the Dundee game was most noticeable. They completely outplayed the bigger and more ex perienced Cardunal line. With Rode at the helm, and Ludwig, Nuss and Klapperich to carry the mail, the Warriors will not be taken lightly by any of their North Suburban foes. With Kuechel, Mai, Sch- weder, Rudolph, Guy Miller, O'Malley and Brett Decker on the defense, look for the Cats to have trouble this Saturday. The Tigers is losing to Lake Forest -spoiled my perfect record last week, but one should know by now, that Crystal Lake always loses in the early season, and then comes on strong. Maybe some day the Warriors can catch them early in the season. This week I'll pick Dundee over Crown. Crown still hasn't recovered from the Barrington 60 to 7 loss. . I'll pick the Warriors over the Cats. The Cats are not that good as yet. Barrington over Lake Forest. The Big Red continue to roll. Zion over Crystal Lake. Tigers haven't lived up to their early season ratings. And in a toss up I'll pick North Chicago over Mundelein. N.C. speed will be the factor in this game. "Our Farm" Holds First Horse Trials In McHenry County Our Farm, located on Bull Valley Road in McHenry County, conducted the first horse trials ever to be held in McHenry County. Horse trials are a combined event where riders ride in three distinct phases and get a combined score. The competitors ride, first, in the dressage ring where they have to do figures that could be paralleled to school figures in skating; second, they compete Over a cross country obstacle course for time; and, finally, they have a jumping competition. The horse trials held at Our Farm offered a unique op portunity for spectators in that they could observe the entire one mile cross country course from one central location. The television show "Sorting It Out" took particular interest in the August 17 horse trials and their film crews were on hand to, not only taking pictures of the various stages of com petition, but also slow motion pictures of horses jumping obstacles. SNOWMOBILERS TAKE NOTE The Illinois Department of Conservation has sent out forms for renewal of your snowmobile registration. It would be advisable for you to complete these and return them as soon as possible. Those of you whose registration is due this year (are in the largest group of registrations as this is the cycle of the start of snowmobile registration in Illinois. So to insure that your renewal is processed before the snow flies and you can ride without receiving a ticket, get your renewal in now. Those who have not received renewal forms check your registration just to make sure your renewal is not due this month. There is always the chance of slipup. If you do not receive your renewal and decals, within a month, write a letter to the department of conservation inquiring as to what has hap pened as they have promised that there would be no delays this year as 'have happened in past years. Another thing to note is how your registration numbers are displayed on your machine. They must be at least 3 inches high blcok characters (not script or hyrogliphics) with a 4 inch width to the lines of the numbers and letters. They must be of a contrasting color to the shroud to which they are mounted. They must be mounted on a verticle surface so they can be easily seen from the side. The letters must be spaced away from the numerals by a couple of inches or a hyphen. The decal must be placed in close proximity to the registration number. If you registration 'number is not readily readable you are subject to a ticket. The snowmobile law is a part of the motor vehicle code and you are subject to the same penalties. If your child is stopped you are subject to the ticket and it goes on your record. Lets ride legal as strict enforcement is the name of the game this year.
