PAGF 9 - Pl.AINDEALER-WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 29, 1975 Lakeland Park Marilyn Nystrom 385-7014 Issue Leaf Pickup Warning Leaf pickup began Oct. 20 and the men are out con tinuously picking up bags of leaves. Fred Meyer, superintendent of public works, stated that the men will only pick up bags with just leaves in them. Do not mix your garbage in with the leaves. CAUTION BUILDERS Fred Meyer stated that there will be a note made on all future building permits to the effect that the area around the site must be cleaned. It seems there's been a problem in Lakeland Park about debris being strewn about by winds. GET-WELL WISHES Sincerest get-well wishes are extended to Mary Barle, who is home from St. Therese and progressing very nicely after her recent illness. VACATION THERAPY Laverne Hromec, Ward 4 alderman, had a well deserved and much needed vacation after her recent illness. She had a ball with her grandson in California. I'm glad back and feeling fine. you re BELATED BIRTHDAYS Belated birthday wishes are extended to Sue Radcliffe, Oct. 19; Marion Duffey, Oct. 20; and Diane Cygan, Oct. 20.1 wish all of you happiness in the year ahead. The ap plication has to be returned no later than Friday, Nov. 14. ZONING GRANTED Zoning was granted to Brittany Builders at the Monday night town meeting. Laverne Hromec and Wally Schaedel, our two aldermen, voted negatively on that issue. Now it goes back to the plan ning commission. BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT Robert and Dawn Diehl of Addison, 111., are proud parents of a baby girl, Agnes, born Oct. 10, 1975. Agnes weighed in at 7 lbs., 3 oz., and was doing fine. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Diehl are the great grandparents and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Diehl, formerly of McHenry, are the great, great grandparents. Dawn's parent, resides in Berkeley, 111. DEADLINE SET Don't forget, the deadline for my article is Friday morning. E.P.A. NOTICE I've had a lot of inquiries about the E.P.A. letter on the quality of our water. In the letter there was an attached statement about rates or price increases. Many of the people who called felt they were being intimidated into answering one statement over the other. It is unfortunate that the E.P.A. felt it should do this because the I.C.C. is the body that would set water rates and only after public hearings. If any of you feel this was the case with your letter please write a comment about it at the bottom of the form. Also call Mr. Lindstrom, who is handling the case, at the E.P.A. office." The phone number is 312-896- 5001. Come to the L P.P.O A. meeting Nov. 6 at 8:00 p.m. because it will be discussed. McCullom Lake Geri Milbratz 385-8543 In Southeast Asia alone, 100,000 children go blind each year as a result of lack of vitamin A. The price of a small bag of potato chips or a candy bar -- donated to UNICEF - can provide the Vitamin A capsules needed to protect three children from blindness for an entire year. / Halloween Has Start At 7 P.M. Friday, Oct. 31 Seven in the evening is when the Halloween party starts, in the village hall Oct. 31. There'll be costume judging, refresh ments, apple bobbing, a spook house, and a jack-'O-lantern contest. Kids can enter their decorated or carved real pumpkin in the contest. Entries will be judged by age groups, including an over 12 group. Also this year, another age category has been added to the costume contest, so kids over 12 can enter that one too. Age groups for both contests will be 0-4, 5-8, 9-12, and 13 and up. All village youngsters are invited to the party. Dori^t forget, 7:00 p.m., and bring your pumpkin. "TRICK OR TREAT" LIMIT Children are requested to stop "trick or treating" by 9:30 p.m. on Halloween night. It is felt this time limit will still give the kids plenty of chance to collect lots of goodies, but yet not be disturbing to people who go to bed, or have to get up early. CIVIL DEFENSE MEETING Village Civil Defense Director Alyce Schroeder is holding a planning meeting in her home Sunday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. The purpose of the meeting is to plan for a drill evacuation of the village. To be eligible for federal aid in case of disaster, besides having a Civil Defense director, a municipality is also expected to participate in civil defense measures. An evacuation drill is^ considered an important safety measure for this village, and Ms. Schroeder would like help in planning it. Anyone interested in helping is invited to attend the meeting at 5000 W. Fountain lane or to call Ms. Schroeder at 385-2802, for more information. MAIL TAMPERING Several residents have complained of persons damaging their mail boxes or taking the mail out of them.
