Two new ways to save taxes If you're not covered by a qualified pension plan where you work, a new law lets you set aside up to $1500 a year in a tax-deferred Individual Retirement Account (IRA). If you're self-employed, you can put aside up to $7500 a year in your own tax-deferred Keogh HR-10 retirement plan. You don't pay federal income taxes on the funds set aside in these plans until you retire. But your plan must comply with the requirements of the new law.
