"1 know 1 feel warm when I stand in the sun, -hut how can solar energy heat my home - even on a cloudy day?" The Energy Fair to be held Thursday, Nov. 6, at the McHenry county fairgrounds (Exhibit Hall D) will help to answer that question. The McHenry County Defenders, sponsors of the fair, have gathered together exhibits and working models designed to show solar energy at work. Fair visitors will be able to see how solar energy can cook a hot dog and run a TV Other exhibits will feature models showing how a home can be heated and cooled with solar energy, and how solar heat can be used on the farm to dry grain. She is light brown with curly hair and is going to be a large Fair Chairman Anne Carroll said, "We want to show the sun's energy at work, but we also will have information on how long it will take to get your money back after investing in solar devices. Once installed, the fuel' is free." You don't have to build a new home or office to make use of the sun's energy. Robert Selby is a partner in a Chicago ar chitect firm which does much work in the field of designing solar installations for both new and existing buildings. Solar energy has been receiving attention lately as one of the more promising technologies to bridge the energy gap. The Energy Fair will also examine other renewable energy sources (which come indirectly from the sun) such as wind power, methane production from organic wastes, and muscle power. The other side of the energy coin is conservation, and several displays at the fair will highlight ways of saving energy in the home, in industry, and in transportation. The Fair will be open free of charge to the public from 9a.m. to5 p.m. and again from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Nov. 6. There will be displays designed to appeal to every age from grade schoolers on up. The relationship between time, space and matter? And. man's place in time? These are some of the thought provoking con cepts considered in "Time and Eternity", a full color motion picture to be shown Nov. 9, 7 p.m. at the First Baptist church, 509 Front street, McHenry. Produced by Dr. Irwin A. Moon, at the Moody Institute of Science in Whittier, Calif., "Time and Eternity" is one of a series of unique and interesting motion pictures released under the general classification of Sermons from Science. "Time and Eternity" and other ser mons from Science films were viewed by more than a million people from all over the world at the New York World's Fair. Using the time microscope and time compressor (lapse- time camera and high speed camera), Dr. Moon demon strates some of the basic principles of relativity. The result is not only highly in formative but intensely in teresting. "Time and Eternity" presents God as Omnipotent, unrestricted by the limits of time and space. The reality of eternity is seen as a scientific fact. Church Shows Exciting Film The Christian and Missionary Alliance church at 3815 W. Bull Valley road in McHenry will view an exciting film this Sunday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m. "Blood on the Mountain" tells of prison break, kid napping, and revenge, all climaxed by a police chase at the Royal Gorge of the Sangre de Christo mountains of Colorado. The conflicts of raw human emotions and the in terruption of human plans are woven into a tapestry of man's rebellion and God's vast love and forgiveness. Relevant to both every day living and times of major crises, the story portrays searching questions and decisions each must face at some point in our lives. All are welcome and encouraged to see this dynamic film. St. Mary's Choristers Tq Be Organized Nov.3 DH. DAVID W. SIIAl'M On Nov. 3, the youth from grades 5 through 8 of St. Mary's church will be canvassed for the formation of a chorus of thirty to thirty-five voices. Objectives in the endeavor are to give youth the opportunity to sing, and to enhance further the diversity and versatility of the overall music program of the parish. The congregation has always had a choir of adult voices that ranks among the best in the diocese of Rockford. Under the direction of Sister Andreella, O.S.F., the choir rehearses and sings regularly at the Peoples' Mass every Sunday at 9:30, as well as presenting special music for the great feasts of the liturgical year and at the many celebrations through the years in the life of the parish. Sister Andreella's musical direction at St. Mary's spans close to four decades, and up to two years ago her activity included a full teaching schedule in the school as well. Her girls' choir sang at daily Mass, at funerals and school and parish events for years. Dr. David W. Shaum. professor of music at Mount St. Mary's college, Emmitsburg, Md.. and long time friend of Father Baumhofer, will visit St. Mary's during the first week of November to lend his en couragement and expertise in forming the choristers. Dr. Shaum is an ac complished musician with long experience, especially in the field of voice. For years he conducted the Schola Cantorum and choir of Mt. St. Mary's seminary, as well as his ex tensive work in the college department. He presently directs the Mt. St. Mary's Gleemen and the Belles of St. Mary's of Emmitsburg. He also directs the mixed chorus and the boy choristers of St. Peter, New Castle, Delaware. He has traveled extensively with his college singers throughout the United States, Panama and the Canal Zone, and Europe. His groups have sung from St. Peter's in Rome, to the Caribbean Islands, and per formed for presidents in Washington, D.C. His stay with the youth of St. Mary's is expected to be a source of great encouragement to them, and the opportunity for him to share his expertise with these young men. SEASONAL SIGHT. . . Sweeping across the white sands of Daytona Beach, Fla., pretty Lynette Walsh demonstrated that a broom can be a girl's best friend during the energy crisis. Ask any witch this Halloween. GOOD WORD And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said: Blessed are you poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. Blessed are you that hunger now for you shall be satisfied. Blessed are you that weep now, for you shall laugh. Luke 6:20,21 Doughnut Traditionally, doughnuts were tossed in the air for children to catch on Shrove Tuesday, the day before LENT began. In fact, it's a tradition for Americans, who have been frying doughnuts in deep fat for more than 100 years, to make them on Shrove Tuesday. POET'S CORNER STRANGE GOINGS ON Strange goings on in this place called the home, you may think I'm crazy but I think you are wrong. The mice, they are crazy they all chase the cats, and everyone's belfry is full of the bats. The story you hear you may not believe, sit back and relax for it's Halloween eve. It happened last night sometime after twelve, I was reading a book into which I did delve. The clock struck thirteen, I knew something was wrong, I knew it because there was one extra gong. r I looked out the window and what did I sees, ghosties and goblins were flying with ease. ) ^ I jumped in my bed and drew up the cover, When over my head something strange it did hover. I pulled down those sheets, those white sheets that were mine, looked up at the ceiling where five termites did dine. They fell to the floor with a terrible thump and each one had a peculiar hump. They looked at the bed as a meal that's for free, they're eating the bed posts the mattress and By Dave Lindquist Las Vegas •T 5 DAYS - 4 NITES vL From $169°° | INCLUDES: Round Trip Air, Hotel, Extras Chain-O-Lakes /| Travel Service % I l| 1 Vt, 3405 W.
