The children met at the church and after dividing in groups to collect, they returned to the church for some games and a light supper served by ladies of the church. When all the money was counted, a total of $105 was sent to UNICEF, thanks to all of you in the community who gave. WELCOME BABY DAUGHTER Stacy- Lynn Bays was born Oct. 13 at Woodstock hospital, weighing 6 lbs., 14 oz Cecil and Patti (Madden) Bays are the proud parents with brothers, Tim, 3 years old, and Chad, 19 months, happy to welcome a little sister. The maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. George Madden, Sr., and the paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Donald Bays. HERE AND THERE Visitors at the Art Christophers this weekend included their daughter and son-in-law, the Gary Linstads, and the Rich Harrisons, as well as friends from Columbus, Ohio, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Cartter and sons. The Walt Lows accompanied the Robert Grahams of McHenry to the Horicon Marsh area last Sundav to watch the geese, it is a fantastic signt to see. I really thought it a dumb idea but was such a beautiful day that I thought OK I'll go along for the ride, but was I ever surprised. I never saw so many birds in one area at a time, a hunter's paradise and they couldn't shoot a one. If you have never been to the Horicon Marsh area to see the geese, do put it on your calendar to do so next year at this time 'cause it is well worth the trip. HELP FOLKS! Our column seems to get smaller and smaller. We do need your help to keep it going and if you get tired of reading the same names every week or so it is your own fault because you didn't call us and let us know who you visited or who visited you. Just those little things that make our column interesting reading for everyone. So call one of the numbers at the top of the page. If you have a gas lamp, turn it off unless its light is ab solutely necessary for safety. You'll save about $27 per year. Or convert your gas light to electricity - that should save you almost $19 a year. In either case you'll help soften the natural gas shortage we're anticipating in many states. Trustees Pass imendment To tarage Code Wt the last meeting of the Board of Trustees on Oct. 15, tlie amendment to the building c0de dealing with garages was passed with 5 yes and 1 no vote. This amendment specifies a minimum size for garages of 19 x 11 feet. TROUBLE WITH DITCHES There are some areas of the village where the ditches present £ serious problem, and driving through them makes it even worse. Traffic Ordinance No. 4, Sec. 3.35 states that entry and exit to private properties has to be effected over designated areas (driveways with culverts underneath). This law has been and will be en forced. At this time of year some people find it easiest to dispose of their leaves in the ditches which might lead to un necessary flooding problems. A little more work now may prevent some bad trouble. HAPPY HALLOWEEN As you can see from your flyers, the Halloween costume judging will take place this afternoon at 4:30 p.m. sharp. There will be prizes in several categoreis. And please remember, keep your lights on. BIRTHDAYS Today Nancy Tibbs is 12 years old. Jimmie Colberg will be 9 tomorrow. Many happy returns to both of you. you. I can't believe it, only two birthdays and not a single anniversary this coming week? That's almost impossible! So, why don't you give meda call and let me know your family's celebrations? I bet your kids would like to see their names in print! £500. /SWT IT- NICE TO KNOW YOU CAN BORROW ENOUGH MONEY TO GET OUT OF DEBT ? fMpIM FARM BUREAU CHAIRMEN - With programs of work at an increased pace, McHenry County Farm Bureau has two new committee chairmen for 1975-76 to implement them. (DON PE ASLE Y PHOTOGRAPHY) USDA Loan Interest Rates Rise To 7.5% The interest rate on price support commodity loans and storage facility and drying equipment loans has been in creased from 6.125 to 7.500 percent per annum, effective Oct. 1,1975, Jimmie D. Lucas of the McHenry County ASCS office said. Lucas said the change reflects the increased cost to the Commodity Credit cor poration (CCC) of borrowing money, according to a notice from the USDA in Washington, DC. The new rate will apply to outstanding loans on which applications were received on or after Oct. 1,1974, and to new loans disbursed on and after Oct. 1, 1975. The adjusted in terest rate on outstanding loans is in accordance with policy announced last Oct. 1. Wide use of solar energy predicted. y • *1 } I McHENRY SAVINGS OFFERS YOU .
