I Basketball 1 1 Notes I Monday, November 10th. the girls' basketball team from Fox River Grove came to Montini to challenge our girls. The 7th grade had no probelm coming up with their 3rd victory. Julie Mauer played a great game stealing the ball over and over again from Fox River Grove. Karen Truckenbrod took more rebounds than any other player. High scorers were Linda Aim with 14 points and Sue Dixon with 13. The 8th grade girls played an exciting game from the first jump ball. The teams were evenly mat ched and although we were trailing 8-2 at the end of the 1st quarter, the score was tied 12- 12 at halftime. Going into the fourth quarter trailing 18-17, the team really worked hard and came out victorious by making a basket in the last seven seconds of play. The final score was 23-22. Sue Butler was responsible for more rebounds than any other player. Debbie Herdrich was the leading scorer with 8 points, and Mari Nett had 6 points. Wednesday, November 12th, the Montini girls traveled to Avon for their 4th game of the season. The 7th grade girls just couldn't sink the ball at all and the score at halftime was 10-10. The score at the end of the 3rd quarter was 17-13 in favor of Avon. Sensing defeat, the Montini girls pulled together to score 17 points in the 4th quarter to win 30-17. Cindy Tonyan managed to get more rebounds than anyone else, and the high scorers were Kathy Sabatka and Linda Aim with 11 points each. The Montini 8th grade team seemed to have the same problem finding the baftket and only scored one basket in the first quarter. Although the team improved, they couldn't quite get it all together and they lost the game to Avon by the score of 32-17. Sue Butler and Priscilla Kasprzyk managed to do a good job in getting rebounds, and Carol Herrmann scored 7 points for the Montini team. Hit or Miss August is the month in which the Yankees usually print up their World Series tickets. What about the Little Leaguer with a real problem. His coach told him to hold up at third while Mom keeps hollering to get home this instant! And remember when baseball players shaved at home instead of on TV? Check fuel supply. Take enough along for a round trip. Carry a spare can of gasoline too. And if you have an out board, remember to take along a few quarts of oil. You'll have to mix it with the emergency gas if your regular supply runs out. Carry life preservers for all hands. This is not only good sense, but mandatory in all areas. Be sure yours are Coast Guard Approved. Channel markers - Laoys Buoys have different shapes and distinctivie colors to in dicate their purpose or the side of the channel which they mark.. Red buoys mark the right side of the channel when en tering from seaward- Black buoys mark the left side of the channel when en tering from seaward. Buoys with horizontal red and black stripes indicate an obstruction or junction of two channels. Buoys with vertical black and white stripes indicate the middle of a channel. Buoys with horizontal black and white stripes indicate the boundaries of areas where there are fish traps and nets. White buoys indicate an chorages. On lighted buoys, green lights mark the left side of the channel when entering from seaward and red lights mark the right side of the channel when entering from seaward. * * * * The realities in life are often too much for the sensitive, sincere person. "Fisherperson" Brings In 44V2 Inch Muskie I ATHLETES I I AWAY I Western Illinois' swimmers opened their new varsity The following story was sent to the Plaindealer by Arlene Shovald, Editor Iron River reporter, Iron River, Michigan: One could hardly call Star Ann Lemar a fisherman, since schedule Friday on the road at major college Missouri in Columbia. The contingent includes Rick Swanson , backs t roke r (McHenry). Senior backstroker Swanson qualified for nationals recently in a WIU intrasquad meet with a 56.6 timing in the 400 medley relay. He placed second, nationally, in the 100 and 200 yard events last year. THANKSGIVING cM[ccHsmy doun.txu dCub 820 N. John McHenry III. At any rate Star, who comes from McHenry County in Illinois, was in the local area last week with three friends and Star brought in a trophy that would turn any fisher person - man or woman - green with envy. Star caught a 44 V2 inch Muskie while fishing in Chicagoan Lake on Thursday, Nov. 6. The fish weighed 22Vfe pounds and was caught on a Johnson Spoon. Star and her friends were in the area for what they called their Second Annual Michigan Muskie Trip. The group has been fishing Muskie for several years and have chosen Iron County for the past two years because they appreciate the friendliness and hospitality of the people here. In particular they mentioned the City Market who weighed the fish for them. The group was staying at the Lake View Cottages on Chicagoan Lake. The big Muskie was caught during the first few hours of what was a four day trip. Others in the group included Marcy Fischbach, Joan Copley Some kidding has come our way about the use of the word We in this column. People who attempt to write often use poetic license or journalistic privileges as a cover. Anyhow, after all the blows a fellow takes in life, he doesn't want to wind up with "I" trouble. So we misspelled the name Jozwiak last week. It has a "z", not an "s". Should have put "ski" at the end of his name and called him an Irishman from Notre Dame. Reading the early history of McHenry County an item popped up for court expenses in the year 1838. It seems a man named Ambrose Stolleker was paid $4.25 for guarding the jail. Comment on the bill was, "the absurdity of which is apparent, as the county had no jail". Something will have to be done about our calorie intake. It looked liked McHenry Night at that popular "German and Bonnie Segermark, all of McHenry County, Illinois Two of the girls, Star and Marcy are married and Star says the first thing she did upon catching the Muskie was call her husband to report the good news. The girls spend an gyerage of 14 hours a day in the boat during their annual fishing expedition. And they added this note...."If anyone wants any advice on how to catch a fish, we'll be glad to give it to them!" - kid Copy Kid Hear the one about the with the horn-rimmed who's getting a tongue-lashing from mother for using four-letter words. "But Mom," he pleads, "they say on TV that Tennes see Williams uses that word all the time." Momentarily startled, Mom recovers: "Well don't play with him." HEY! Mama Lorelei was in the kitchen preparing the food as a nice little waitress buzzed around to take good care of us. What should come up on the schedule the next night but the annual roast beef dinner at the Ringwood church. Family style. That's our downfall. Now, we don't go in heavy for deserts, but Alice Peet was sitting at our tabie when a piece of lemon pie was set in front of our plate. "I made that," said Alice. You know the rest - ate the whole thing and it really was delicious. So now it's back to the lettuce and rye crisp sandwiches. Watched the Chicago Bears stay close to the San Francisco Forty Niners for three quar ters, then go down the drain 31- 3. The Bears show im provement in their receiving game with Walter Payton going over 100 yards per game. But, my oh my, Coach Pardee, where is the passing game? Nobody is going to win games in the NFL unless they can go through the air. Chicago needs a cham pionship team in some sport. Wish the American League big wheels would start rolling and give Bill Veeck an OK so he can get on with the job of building a winner on the South Side. Many Chicago Bear fans in these parts are also Bart Starr fans. If you don't follow foot ball, Bart now coaches the Green Bay Packers. In his playing days he was a great quarterback for the Pack. Those who know him say he is a true gentleman both on and off the field. FAMOUS LAST WORDS: Shop early. Charge it. Pay next year. FORMAL WEAR RENTAL for ALL OCCASIONS ihsyt ISm, men
