CHRISTMAS PARTY The Sodality of Christ the King church cordially invites all the ladies of the parish to attend its Christmas party on Thursday, Dec. 4. The festivities will begin at 8 p.m. and there will be entertainment and a sing along. All ladies who plan to attend are asked to please bring a plate of their favorite cookies. GIFT SHOP FOR VETERANS The joy of Christmas giving will be the gift of the American Legion Auxiliary, Department of Illinois, to the many Veterans in Veterans Ad ministration and other hospitals in Illinois who have little or no income with which to remember their loved ones at home during the holiday season. The auxiliary will operate a Christmas gift shop in sixteen hospitals throughout the state under the direction of Mrs. Wayne Redman of Bement, State Christmas gift shop chairman. Mrs. John Acklin, of Dolton, State Veterans affairs and Rehabilitation Chairman, who is also the State Second Vice-President, will supervise the entire activity and Mrs. Robert Sonne, of Clifton, State President, will be a special guest at many of the gift shops. Veterans are invited to visit the shops, usually set up in a spare room of the hospital, made gay with Christmas decorations and provided with Christmas music. Gift items are displayed just as in a commerical shop. The dif ference is no price tags and no cash registers. Auxiliary volunteers help the Veteran make selection of gifts for their immediate family; gifts are suitable for all ages. Then, the volunteers wrap and mail the gifts to the Veteran's home at no cost to the veteran. With each gift is enclosed a card showing the gift comes from the hospitalized Veteran. Robert Vanderstraeten Unit No. 1169 has helped to make this project possible through its generous contribution to the fund which provides the gifts, according to Mrs. Lois Haak, Rehabilitation Chairman of the Wonder Lake Unit. VOLUNTEERS On Dec. 6, along with Lois Haak, chairman, Marge Hartung, president, will be attending the Christmas gift shop held at the Elgin State hospital, as volunteers to help the veterans select their Christmas gifts for their families. Thus, the American Legion auxiliary assures that the veteran has the joy of Christmas giving, which is the most enjoyable part of Christmas.
