Even though Santa Claus disap pointed the ladies by not making an appearance, it did not put a damper on the gaiety. Everyone seemed pleased with the gifts they received. Although there is no regular club meeting in December, it was reported that the veterans at Downey were very pleased with the coupon books presented by the club. President, Maureen Johnson, advised that the club is spon soring a drive to secure toys and canned goods for needy families Saturday, Dec. 20, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Lakeland Park Community house, 1717 North Sunset avenue. These items will be handled through "Fish" and the various churches of the area. There are many needy who will be without food or gifts if others do not share. Toys for infants and small children, and suitable books, games, puzzles, playing cards, etc. for those in their teens are acceptable. New toys and items are asked and should not be wrapped. Those packing the baskets will then know what items are available for the different age groups and the items can be properly distributed. Those with canned goods and toys or gifts to donate, and who cannot bring them to the Community house Saturday, Dec. 20, should call Maureen Johnson at 385-6504, and she will arrange to pick them up. Ruth Roach also advises that drivers will be needed Christmas eve, Dec. 24, to make deliveries, so if one can spare the time and have a car available and would like to help deliver the baskets to the needy, call Ruth at 385-0683.
