PAGE 7 - PLAIN DEALER-FRIDAY. DECEMBER 12,1*H On The Sidelines by Dick Rabbin Our apologies to sophomore wrestler Bob Larke. Bob won two matches in the double dual meet against Round Lake and Waukegan East a couple of weeks ago. Bob had an outstanding record last year as a freshman winning 22 and losing just two. This season Bob is currently 5 and 1. Bob is a heavyweight and from his record will be a welcome addition to Coach Sobczak and the "Rassling Warriors". Coach Bruce Stahmer of the Barring ton Broncos showed a lot of maxie last week. He suspended six of his players for violations of training rules. Two of the six were regulars and Warrior fans were surprised when the Broncos dressed only nine players for the game last Friday night. The suspension is in effect until February first, and means the players will miss eleven games or about half of the season. It took a lot of courage for the coach to make that kind of a decision. He has been on the so called "hot seat" for the past year or two. The Bronco basketball program has certainly not been on the upswing. Regardless of what a lot of people think, discipline still has to be maintained on the high school level. When a coach cannot maintain the training rules that he sets up, then he may as well give up coaching, because he is just fighting a lost cause. Marty Zeller 4n his first starting assignment for New Mexico Military poured in 14 pts, and held the opponents high scorer to a meager 2. It looks as if the ex-Warrior will find himself a starting berth. New Mexico Military now has a record of 6 and 0. Kenne Ludwig, another ex-Warrior is also a member of the, squad. Interesting sidelights observed at the Grant game last Saturday night. Leo Ludwig, father of Coach Ken, standing and yelling at the officials. The elder Ludwig a real fan from Effingham, 111., really takes the game seriously. A good thing that the officials couldn't lip read, or there would have been another "Big T" for the Warriors. My ribs are still black and blue from Hezzie Miller's knees. Must remind myself not to sit in front of him in the future. The Warriors are going to try something new come January 31. On that Saturday afternoon for the first time in history they are going to play a Saturday afternoon basketball game. The opponent will be Libertyville. So scratch out the Friday night date on your schedule and mark in Saturday afternoon. According to Bill Blankenhorn the A.D. it will be an experiment. It should be quite interesting to see if the crowds will be better than a Saturday night. Saturday night ball at McHenry does not seem to bring out the crowd. Also featured during the preceding week over radio station WKRS of Waukegan, will be Warrior Week. The station plans to cover all phases of McHenry high school. WKRS will broadcast the game live, the superintendent will be interviewed at halftime, and the post game show will feature the winning coach. Should be quite a Saturday afternoon. The Warriors also have been awarded a regional tourney. As yet the teams have not been announced, but from the looks of the other regionals in the area, it could be the same foursome that made up the Belvidere regional last year. The Warriors, Woodstock, Belvidere, and Rockton. Dave and Laurie Mihevc have worked out the ouija board and have come up with some interesting picks for the coming season in the North Suburban. This year they have picked all ten teams and sorry to say the Warriors will again finish behind the Zee Bees from Zion. North Chicago gets the third place nod, followed by Libertyville and Crystal Lake. Sixth place goes to Lake Forest, followed by Barrington, Mundelein, Dundee and Crown. The board says that the Warriors will lose to Zion and North Chicago and will finish with either a 23 and 5 record or a possible 22 and 6 record. I think Warrior fans will settle for the season record, but are hoping for a conference championship. Anyway now that you have their predictions, it should be interesting to see if Dave and Laurie still have the touch. Last year they were pretty aoairate^ but just maybe the Warriors can fool them this year. American Indians believed that jade could cure snakebite. 24 HOUR TOWING!
