Pitman, has announced provisional figures which indicate that during the 23,00 Blind Aided By Lions Candy Day The man who Wears the apron has reason to be grateful. And so do the 23,000 legally blind persons1 in Illinois, because in this case, the apron strings were not in the kitchen but on the street corners. From Rockford to Chicago to East St. Louis to Peoria /to Peotone. those apron strings tied together a vast network of 30.000 Illinois Lions, their families, and friends who gave away^eandy rolls Oct. 10 and collected money to help the state's visually handicapped people. The occasion was the Lions of Illinois Candy day for the Blind. The outcome: more than likely, more than one million dolla'rs. "Our final tally will not be available until January, but the projections are showing that we will reach and possibly surpass our goal of one million and two dollars," said Norman Dahl, executive administrator of the Lions of Illinois foundation, 1515 North Harlem avenue. Oak Park. "Once again, the people of Illinois have shown their concern for the blind, and the WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO LIMIT QUANTITIES ON SALE ITEMS individual Lions have given of themselves to help make it possible to carry on programs and projects to help the visually handicapped," said A.G. "Aug" Marcheschi of Niles, president of the Lions of Illinois foundation. Since Candy day began in ' 1952. Lions have raised more than $10 million for state ap proved projects. This year's state projects include the . Illinois College of Optometry, University of Illinois Medical School Department of Ophthalmology, Hadley School lor the Blind, Lions of Illinois Foundation Mobile Glaucoma Screening Unit, Leader Dogs for the Blind, Rochester, Mich., Dialogue and Intercom, recorded services for the blind; Illinois Camp Lions for Visually Handicapped Children, and Lions of Illinois Eye Donor Registry. Funds also support com munity services such as pre school vision screening, eye surgery, and other medical and emergency aids, eye banks, and special equipment purchases for blind persons. month of November. 1975. 166 persons died from injuries sustained in traffic accidents on Illinois highways. Tired Jokes It's been rumored that os triches are burying their heads in the sand these days because they're so tired of hearing all the elephant jokes going around. Like how can you tell if a elephant has been in your refrigerator? Check the butter for fingerprints. Yes, very tired jokes. Life lit •>'- .Wi.-iK'"* H; I EVE 'TOGNOT! THE OLD TALF.
