PAGE 6 - PLAINDEAI.FR-TITESDAY^ DECEMBER 30,1975 mm? * EARL WALSH So I Hear SPORTS EDITOR. Asked a fellow what he did with his time since he retired. "Well", says he, "I spend quite a bit of time com plaining". Couldn't believe our eyes. It was early Christmas morning when we looked through the front window and saw Virginia Williams and her niece, Cathy Doherty, shoveling snow -- up one side of the street and down the other. Such holiday spirit you won't be seeing often. SUDDEN THOUGHT - Seems to us that a clean car runs better. One of our best ^Christmas joys was having ouf old friend "Red" Winkel come to our house a-callin'. His health gave us a worry for a while. Another pleasant happening was meeting Morrie and Lois Crouch at Snug Harbor on Christmas Eve. No fun in going out if you don't meet friends and have a little conversation. What we didn't know was that one of -the Snug Harbor proprietresses is an en tertainer. Yep. Zoe played the organ and sang a few tunes. Even had My Wild Irish Rose that Irish gal. Always seems like we should see the Joe Suttons when we enter the Snug Harbor dining room. No finer fellow than Joe ever graced thislbarth, but his time came to leave after a good life. Coach Ludwig has his team entered in the Kankakee basketball tournament. It's a long ride down there, but would be a short hop home if our team could win it all the way. Dick Rabbitt, Wayne Gaylord and Larry Lund will be there. And, can you imagine? The finals will be played on New Year's Eve. It was quite a blow to learn that Walt Freund died. In his daily phone calls (sometimes twice a day) we followed sports, especially since Bill Veeck came into the White Sox picture and ignited so much interest. Back about 1930 Walt organized and managed a good baseball team in McHenry. It was our privilege to score those games for a long time. When both of us were visiting doctors in Chicago, we took the train three days each week for some time. We carried a baseball rule book and studied it forwards and backwards during those train rides. Friendship was strong beU ween us. We are going to miss our friend Walt and those phone calls. We will devote a chapter to him in that book we are writing -- the one with one copy. Holidays and dealines have us all mixed up. Next week we can settle down and start counting the number of days before Christmas. Didn't get around to resolutions for 1976, but let's not worry. We have a lot of unused ones from '75. Stay healthy and have Happy New Year. g4®r , 4 0 M.C.H.S. Warriors The Warrior varsity team is off to a good start with a 7'and 1 record. 'I want the wine!'" A bottle was awarded to the bowler on each team who, bowled the most over his average, but two teams had to declare the winner as the person who bowled the LEAST under his average. The following took home prizes (but we won't say who was under); R. Homo, D. Prazak,,iC. Lescher, R. Ryner, M. Foss, L. Spears, C. Buittner, S. Vitale (tied with R. Glawe), J. Gray, and C. Brown. High series of 570 was captured by A. Boeldt, and S.S., W. Coari, eased a 239 for high game. Judy Gray really "grooved" on the wine and bowled a 169 and totaled a 492 for both honors. R. Glawe and B. Novak picked up the 5-7, while R. Ryner went out of his mind and picked up the 5-7-10. A. Boeldt added 3 pins to his average and J^Gray, R. Ryner, R. Homo, and B. DiCianni added pins.
