WATCH FOR OUR BIG Dollar Day GOING FOR THE PIN - Warrior Dennis Useman came on strong and Ed Brown of Cary-Grove found himself in trouble. Dermis, in his first match of the season, after returning from a long term injury, pinned his opponent in 1:22. Denny had the only pin for the Warriors in their win over Cary- Grove Tuesday night. (STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD) EARL WALSH So I Hear SPORTS EDITOR--I Now some smart guy comes out with the idea that we should keep J§e temperature in our homePat 60 to 66 degrees. He must be selling long drawers. In winning the Kankakee holiday basketball tournament, Coach Ludwig's high flying Warriors must have ignited enough interest among students, faculty, sports fans and everybody to pack the gym Friday night when the Mun- delein team comes to town. On Saturday night a natural rivalry should brrqg out another crowd to see the visiting Marian Central team clash with the Warriors. MAIN 385-0294 two schools to schedule games, but good sportsmanship and good games have resulted. Always did contend that the players show more sport smanship than fans at athletic contests. Paying income tax has always hit us where it hurts. Tdo often waste is exposed. So we pick up the paper and learn that a couple of million bucks had been handed out to presidential candidates. Hey! That's our money!! Without worrying about the legality of baseball and football contracts, we can see more millionaires among athletes. Maybe the owners will have to sell the franchises to the players. "Catfish" Hunter showed last year that he is no fish when he sold his services to the New York Yankees for three and one half million. The big worry is that the wealthy owners will be able to grab off the cream while the lowly teams take the skimmed milk. i Fans will be the ones to pick up the tab when the feast is over. Admission prices will go up and up until big time sports price themselves out of the market?3 Of course, it isn't only the ticket buyers who pay the freight. Without TV revenue, there wouldn't be big salaries, pensions or other, benefits. Consumers who never saw a game are helping pay the bill. But, those who analyze the situation tell us not to worry about the rich owners. Their mothers didn't raise dumb children. PICKUPS: A wolf is a man who believes in life, liberty and the hap piness of pursuit. Before credit cards, we always knew exactly how much we were broke. The next home meet will be against Woodstock on Tuesday, Jan. 13. (STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD) Home Doubleheader For Warriors This Weekend By Dick Rabbitt The McHenry High Warriors with a nifty 11 and 1 record rejturn to the friendly confines of Buckner Gym for a brace of game this weekend. The Warriors fresh from the Kankakee Holiday cham pionship take on the Mustangs from Mundelein tonight at 8:00 P.M. The Mustangs are led by the North Subufban conference scoring leader Greg Boyle a 5'8" junior guard who is averaging a little over 24 points per game in conference play. The only other letterman returning to Coach Dick Starkey's Mundelein team is 6'2" senior forward Paul Hering. Rounding out the starting five is junior guard 5'10'y Kevin Elfering, senior forward 6'2" Dale Traxler, and 6'5" sophomore center Don Hutchinson. Mundelein is 1 and 3 in the North Suburban this year. Last year at Mundelein the Warriors won 94 to 55. MARIAN HERE SAT. NITE On Saturday night an old rival, the Hurricanes of Marian, will invade West Campus. Coach Bud Grover's "Hurricanes" have won their last two outings after having gone 0 for 7 early in the season. This game always has a bit of local flavor, as Marian always has some McHenry boys in the starting lineup. Mike Tonyon a 6'0 senior is back for his third season on the varsity squad. Jeff Grover the coach's son is the teams leading scorer, along with Mike Nitz, along with Kevin Coughlin. Rounding out the starting lineup is sophomore center 6'1" Jim Ringness. In this game you can throw out the season records, it is always a good game, and although the Warriors have won the past three outings, the games have down to the wire. Both coaches will go all out to win, and if you are a real basketball fan you won't want to miss this game. McHenry Wrestler Don Freund (on top) applies a double cross face hold on Mike Falconet of Cary-Grove in the 126 lb., match. Don lost the match by a 5-3 score and his season record is still an impressive 10-4.
