There were 152 in attendance when President Chester Conrad called the club meeting to order last Monday evening, at East campus cafeteria. President Conrad welcomed the members and thanked them for at tending. Five new members were welcomed into the club. Mrs. Louise Giel reported there are still a few reser vations available for the bus- luncheon-theater trip to Pheasant Run Wednesday, Feb. 18. The bus leaves the MqHenry State bank parking lot at 11:45 a.m. Mrs. Giel also reports there are reservations available for the bus-luncheon-theater trip to the Red Barn at the Wagon Wheel lodge at Rockton, Wednesday, March 17. Contact Mrs. Giel promptly. The buses leave the McHenry State bank -parking lot at 10 a.m. Roland Grayson reports the bus trip to the Chicago Loop for February is filled. Reser vations for the Loop trip March 10 are available and this will be a "bonus" trip. President Conrad appointed a nominating committee, in accordance with the by-laws, and at the next meeting the chairman of the nominating committee will be announced, along with the other members of this committee. The program for the evening was a card party, with prizes for the winners at each table, after which refreshments were served and the members en joyed a social time. Those who have overlooked paying dues, are encouraged to send check to Mrs. Pearl Oliver, at 2815 North Wooded lane, McHehry. Members delinquent in their dues for a period of three months are automatically dropped from the membership rolls. Sponsors Dinner Dance Lakeiand Club Prepares TVlA orillPQtlAfllll r\T*ACT T* Q 111 G ciiph 9C t> The McHenry County Hor semen's association holds its first annual dinner dance Saturday, Feb. 28, at the American Legion, Oak and Woodstock streets in Crystal Lake. The festive evening, which begins at 7 p.m., includes dinner, dancing and an auction. "This is our first real social event as an organization," said Ross Poore, president of the association. "There will be others as we expand the group to include various types of activities. "We will continue to em phasize providing information on legislation and other mat ters affecting horse owners in the county," Poore said, "but we also intend to have educational programs, such as clinics, and social events." The buffet style dinner will include two types of meats plus all the trimmings. Proceeds will go toward covering the expenses of publishing the MCHA Newsletter, which keeps , members informed on various association activities. "The newsletter is a vital link with horseowners in the county to keep them up-to-date on what's happening," Poore said. Tickets for the dinner dance are available from MCHA board members or by con tacting the McHenry County Horsemen's Assocaition, P.O. Box 405, Woodstock, 111., 60098. Tickets will be returned by mail. G i f t s F o r N u r s i n g H o m e State Candidate Business Women Speaker Feb. 16 At the Lakeland Park Women's club meeting Thursday, Feb. 5, members prepared stationery packets as Valentine gifts for the residents of a local nursing home. The ladies will deliver these Valentine packets to the nur sing home, along with homemade cookies. The club members are quite enthused about their up-coming white elephant and bake sale Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Lakeland Park Community house, 1717 North Sunset avenue# There will be many homemade "goodies" and club members will be serving "coffee-and" at a nominal price throughout the hours of the sale, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The next meeting of the club will be Thursday, March 4, at 12:30 p.m. at the Lakeland Park Community house. New Lake Senior Club Increases Membership Members Anticipate Valentine Day Party The Senior Citizens club of Wonder Lake has now moved out of the organizing stage to a permanent status, recognized by the members as a source of information in regard to the benefits they are entitled to receive from the federal and state governments. The enrollment of sixty members at the first meeting, has increased to the present 170 members. At the Jan. 19 meeting, Bill Biscomb, Social Security director for this area, gave an interesting talk on the various phases and benefits of Social Security, who are eligible and how to apply. He then answered and explained the many questions from the members. Despite the frigid weather and snow, eighty-six members were in attendance. The Feb. 2 meeting was well attended. Marge Jones, director of the McHenry County Senior Citizens council, explained the Homestead exemption discount, also the 1975 Circuit breaker benefit, how to apply for each and gave insturctions how to fill out the forms which she also supplied. *A bus trip was planned to the Hawthorne Shopping center, including a side trip to the Sara Lee bakery for Feb. 25. Other trips are in the planning stage. A Valentine party is being arranged for the Feb. 16 meeting. The Rev. Roger Olson, pastor of Nativity church, will be our quest speaker. A1 Tomasek reported that the Bicentennial committee of Richmond has set up its format and an event for each month of 1976 has been planned. The new constitution and by-laws have been com pleted and open for viewing by the members. Frances Foley reported that a blood pressure kit had been purchased and blood pressures would be taken at the next meeting. Frances Heinemann read a letter from the Pioneer Center for Exceptional Children, recognizing the club for remembering them at Christmas. A petition was circulated to..."Help us get what needs to be done to upgrade the quality of our state Legislature." The next meeting will be Feb. 17, when a bake sale will be held. Guest speaker will be Dave O'Neal, candidate for lieutenant governor of Illinois. The dinner will be open to the public at the McHenry Country club. O'Neal was born Jan. 24, 1937, in Belleville, 111., attended Belleville public schools and McKendree college in Lebanon, where he studied for the Methodist ministry. He is a graduate of St. Louis College of Pharmacy. He is a former Eagle Scout, Scout leader and served in the U.S. Marine corps. In March of 1971 he was appointed to the St. Clair county Health & Welfare council, th€ first sheriff ever to be so appointed. In July of 1975 he was awarded the Outstanding Young Republican of the Nation award by the National Young Republican federation. This award is presented once every two years. On Feb. 12, 1972, he received the 1971 Distinguished Service Award from the Belleville Jaycees, and June 15, 1973, received the Humanitarian of the Year award from Illinois-Wisconsin States Associations I.B.
