Boy Scout Troop 162* will be working along, with the McHenry County Defenders by providing labor 6n Saturday to unload cars and to take care of the bundled newspapers, clean bottles and flattened all- steel cans that are brought in. Clear, green, and brown bottles are able to be recycled. People are asked to remove all metal and plastic from the bottles. Do not bring crockery or light bulbs. All-aluminum cans are also accepted, along with other aluminum products such as TV dinner trays and aluminum tubing. In order to assist people in determining which cans are steel and which are all aluminum, the McHenry County Defenders will have on hand a quanitity of magnets which will be distributed as long as the supply lasts. Bi metal beverage cans are often confused with the all-aluminum cans. However, pop-top cans with the seam running around the bottom have steel sides and bottom and an aluminum top. These cannot be recycled because the aluminum tops are very difficult to remove and cause an aluminum con tamination in the steel once it is melted. Defenders encourage the public to think seriously about the environmental necessity of purchasing beverages and returnable bottles, which have an average life of nineteen trips back and forth to the store. Veterans' interest in the GI Bill continued to soar with all indications pointing to record enrollment during IfTf VA expects that the record number of 2.691,566 veterans who trained under the GI Bill during fiscal year 1975 will be ex ceeded during the current fiscal year. Fall enrollment figures indicate that nearly 3.1 million veterans would be in training under the program when the new fiscal year figures are available. Anyone having questions regarding the paper, bottle, and can recycling are asked to call 385-8512. Alice Howenstine PAGE 11 • PLAtNDEAUOI-WEDNEgDAY. FEBRUARY IS.
