(STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLOR£) EARL WALSH So I Hear SPORTS EDITORJ The time has come for all of us to get active in the local plans for our country's Bicentennial observation. As always, a few people are doing the work..They aren't complaining,, but do want to generate interest in this program to celebrate the 200th birthday of our country. The one and only fund raising effort will be a big dance at the VFW on Saturday night, Feb. 28. That's not far away. Schools are doing just great with their programs, com mittees are working hard -- now let's get our enthusiasm up and join the crowd. We have tickets for the dance. The line forms to the right. Don't go away. The last home basketball game for the Warriors on the regular schedule is coming up Friday night. Crystal Lake will be here. Those Tigers are tough. It seems each year that they improve greatly as the season moves along. Player of the week! BASKETBALL TERRY REtLLY Terry scored 24 points in the Warrior wins over Bar- rington and Dundee last weekend. Terry also had 23 assists. So -- look for a doozy of a game Friday night. Times does fly. Just think -- St. Patrick's Day is only a month away. - Elgin's high school basket ball team has won 1,000 games and invite friends to join in a celebration Sunday, Feb. 29, at 7 P.M. in the school fieldhouse. That's a lot of winning. Congratulations! Looking through the kitchen window this morning, it was a shock to see how green the grass is. Makes a fellow think he had better get the lawn mower tuned up for his wife. We used to tell Sharon Klontz, when she was an office associate of ours, that her name would appear when she bowled a 500 series. In looking over the scores this week, up pops her name with a 232 game in a 508 series. Now, when she hits 600 her picture will appear. Last Friday night was "Orange Nite" at McHenry High. Our better half wore enough orange to suit Dick Rabbitt. (She's not Irish, you know). Our decoration wasn't enough to suit him. What he doesn't know is that we couldn't find our orange and black slipover sweater from high school days. Such a good time we don't enjoy every day. A visit to the Bob Thompson home was right down our alley. Saw so many old pictures of McHenry and so many old newspapers. Of course, we picked up valuable information for our project in trying to locate the oldest buildings in our fair city. In reading an old Plaindealer printed before the turn of the century, an item appeared in an ad "11 pounds of good coffee for $1.00". Later on, when prices started to go up, the price was 5 pounds for a dollar. Will look forward to another visit to that home. LADIES TUESDAY NITE . An added incentive will be "Parents Night", when the parents of the varsity players and cheerleaders will be honored at pre-game ceremonies. Only 10 teams in Class AA ball have won 20 or more games this seaSon, which is the pin nacle of success to a basketball team. The "Tigers" of Coach John Swenson have been a disap pointment this year. If you remember earlier this year Coach Swenson resigned and Tankers .Defeat . Woodstock 49-33 later reconsidered, but the Tigers have shown little im provement. Led by Sam Mosolino and Kurt Pearson, the Tigers were expected to have something to say about the North Suburban. They are currently 5 and 5 in the Con ference, and with Crown and Barrington left on the schedule should stay in the upper division, however, we can't count the Swenson crew out of any game. If you recall two years ago the Tigers who had a losing record, wound up at DeKalb in the Supersectional. They seem to peak at the end of the season, but let's hope it is after tonight's game. The Warriors are coming on fresh after a pair of victories the past weekend. Although they didn't look any too good in their win over Barrington, nevertheless they won by 10 points, and hit the clutch. Saturday night they won a big game at Dundee, which in my opinion is the "snake pit" of the North Suburban. Any time you can win at Dundee, chalk it up and don't ask any questions about how the team played, just be thank ful that you won. It is the last regular home game for the Warriors, and it would be a nice tribute to this fine team if there was a good crowd on hand. Hope to see you there. Coach Mike Shanahn "Water Warriors" warmed up for the Arlington District by defeating the Woodstock Blue Streaks by the score of 49 to 33. Bruce Fetzer and Jim Nelson were the double winners for the Warriors. This weekend the Warriors travel to Arlington Heights for the District Meet to be held on Saturday afternoon.
