CITIZENS BAND EQUIPMENT The most essential CB equipment is the transceiver, a combination Radio transmitter and receiver. Some transceivers are designed so they can operate from 12- volt batteries in a car, truck, boat, etc. These are called mobile units - others, called base units, are de signed" to operate on standard house current. Transceivers generally have built-in loudspeakers and come supplied with a microphone. The antenna is also a very essential part of a CB set-up. It is a separate component that ranges from the very simple to the relatively complex. One of the most popular base sta tion antenna is a "ground-plane" (one center radial with normal three radials extending from the bottom). It is a omni-directional type, meaning that it trans mits your signal equally to all points of the compass. A more complex "beam" antenna radiates the trans mitter power in one direction and is generally used with a rotator to aim the antenna in the desired direction. There are many antennas available for mobile use. A popular one is the 102 in flexible whip mounted on the bumper or fender of a vehicle. Some compact ver sions of the whip have a part of the effective length of the antenna wound in a coil inserted at the base, in the center or at the top. These shortened antennas (anywhere from 18" to 49") are usually mounted on the car's roof, or the rear deck or trunk lid. Please stop in, as we have a complete selection of all types of CB antennas and can help you choose the right one for your needs. Ph. 385-4646 For the first time this season the Warriors put together four quarters of basketball much to the delight of the huge, howling mob of Warrior fans. It was the fourth regional championship in the last five years for the Warriors of Coach Ludwig. Using the famous "press" the Warriors forced the Bucs into thirty two turnovers, nine of them coming in the opening period, when the Warriors struck with a fury. The "Radar" opened the evening with a basket at 7:45, and then in the next two minutes added three more to make the score Reilly 8 Belvidere 0 at the 4:30 mark. Taking advantage of every Buc miscue, Decker, Lund, Ludwig, Koerber and Reilly again built up a 18 to 0 lead at the 2:00 mark of the period. When Tim Flemming scored the Buc's first basket, he received a big cheer from the Warrior fans, and the Warriors led at the end of the opening period 22 to 4. „ The onslaught continued in the second period. The Warriors by now sky nigh were off and running. With everyone getting into the act the Warriors pranced up and down the court and went in at the intermission leading 47 to 16. By this time Coach Ludwig had inserted his reserves. Bringing back the regulars to begin the third period, they again broke off at the tip and continued along their merry way. Decker hit a layup at 7:55 and away went the Warrior machine into full gear. Lund's basket at 3:15 made the score 65 to 28, and when Decker made a three point play at the buzzer the scoreboard read Warriors ~r REGIONAL FINALS * MCHENRY 22 25 32 23 102 BELVIDERE 4 12 20 16 52 MCHENRY (102) FG FT PF.TP Koerber 9 1 1 19 BELVIDERE (52) Decker 7 4 2 18 FG. Christy hit a 20 footer, Hurckes had a base line shot that brought the score to 87 to 39. Brian Miller continued the scoring, and Billy Meyers on a breakaway brought the score to 99 and the home fans were shouting for 100. Seconds later Billy Hurckes on a steal went in for the basket to nit the century mark, and A1 Rein- boldt's free throw was an- ticlamatic to make the score 102 to 52. " Yes indeed, the Warriors were in high gear Friday night. Brett Decker really had an outstanding game scoring 18 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Let's hope the big fellow is Out of his slump this coming week at Rockford. It was a great team victory. Eleven of the twelve Warriors scored, the fans were just great, and even Belvidere fans were shaking their heads in amazement at the Warrior attack. For the seniors playing their last game at home it will be a night to remember. The Warriors got a lot of breaks, and likewise they made some breaks and took advantage of them. As Coach Ludwig with a big grin on his face said "It was just a super game, played by super kids". Four Warriors were in double figures led by the "Radar" with 22, followed by "Big Steve" with 19. There was a spirit in the gym that we haven't sensed in many a day. It brought back memories of tournaments in the area when crowds battled to get into the gyms. The tempo of the game brought out the old killer in stinct in the crowd. It was Coach Ludwig who showed mercy by pulling his eager regulars early in the game. The "Peoples' Choice", Dick Rabbitt, put the frosting oq the victory when he led a cheer that must have been heard in the next county. Once again the bench boys pranced out to show they belong. The crowd wanted 100 points and let out a great roar when they went on the board. You can bet there will be large crowd of Warrior well- wishers at Rockford* on Tuesday night for Sectional play. Just in time for St. Patrick's Day, County Clerk Vern Kays has chosen green ballots for the Democrats. Nice going, Vern! When we went to pay for a small item the other day and the clerk said "40 cents please", our surprise brought out a "Huh?" How could that young clerk know we used to pay 10 cents for the same item not so long ago? Take your pick. For the next three Sundays you can drop in most any time at West Campus and watch small, large or larger basketball teams in action. This is the 30th year for the C.O.F. state tournament and the McHenry-Johnsburg area has provided a lot of the action.
