Begin from infancy to give the child everything he wants. This way he will grow up to believe that the world owes him a living. 2. When he picks up bad words, laugh at him. It will encourage him to pick up "cuter" phrases that will blow the top off your head later. 3. Never give him any spiritual training. Wait until he is twenty-one and then let him decide for himself. 4. Avoid the use of the word "wrong". It may develop a guilt complex. This will con dition him to believe later when he is arrested for stealing a car that society is against him and he is being persecuted. 5. Pick up anything he leaves lying around - books, shoes, clothing. Do everything for him so he will be expereinced in throwing the responsibility onto others. 6. Let him read any printed matter he can get his hands on. Be careful the silverware and drinking glasses are sterilized, but let his mind feed on gar bage. 7. Quarrel frequently in the presence of the children. Then they won't be too shocked when the home is broken up. 8. Give the child all the spending money he wants. Never let him earn his own. Why should he have things as tough as you had them? 9. Satisfy his every craving for food, drink, and comfort. See that every desire is gratified. Denial may lead to harmful frustrations. 10. Take his part against the neighbors, teachers, and policemen. They are all prejudiced against your child. 11. When he gets into real trouble, apologize for your selves by saying, "I never could do anything with him." 12. Prepare for a life of grief - you will have it. - from The Presbyterian Journal "Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old, he will not depart from it." (Proverbs 22:6) Crutches, cameras, clocks, coats, fishing poles, bowling balls, electric space heaters, plants, toys, suitcases, shoes, and cans of kangaroo tail soup and smoked octopus are just some of the hundreds of items which Chicago and North Western commuters leave behind on trains, and which find a temporary resting place in the railroad's lost - *>d found department After the kangaroo tail soup, probably the most unusual items in the lost and found department are the crutches. "How those people ever got off the train without their crutches, we'll never know," says Chief Clerk Leonard Waiavich as he surveys the three pairs which accumulated during the winter C o m m u t e r s f r e q u e n t l y l e a v e u m brellas on trains. The N o r t h W e s t e r n presently has more than 1.000 unclaimed um brellas stored in its lost and found department, awaiting the opening of Rainstick Junction in April Now in its thirieeeth year. Rainstick June Jion is a cart stocked with unclaimed um brellas for the use of North Western riders caught by a sudden shower. All the um brellas are stamped "Rainstick Junction", and more than 4.000 have been distributed to commuters during the years One of the stamped bumbershoots was recently spotted on a street in West Berlin. "Other left-behind items are almost predictable." says Waiavich "During the spring, people forget raincoats In winter, gloves.hats and scarves are big items At Christmas time, losses include gifts and whiskey." From March through October an average of IV) coats per month are turned in to the loat and found Lost gloves average 100 pairs per month from November through April, and hats average 40 per month throughout the year . The articles are recovered both by train crews who inspect trains after each run. and by car cleaners who go through trains at the railroad'* eight outlying coach yards The items are returned daily to the lost and found depart ment in locked pouches on specified trains Through the use of the railroad's radio system, train crews are often able to recover articles before the train reaches its final destination Commuters alert the railroad that they left an item on a certain train, and the railroad radios the train crew to search the train The crew then radios the Chicago terminal to assure the commuter the lost article has been recovered. Most of the items left on North Western trains a r e e v e n t u a l l y reclaimed But after six months, unclaimed items are sold as salvage Temporary Home For Air Forte Representative Through the generosity ol the staff of McHenry County college, area residents can now discover the opportunities of an Air Force career through a local Air Force representative.
