Oh lie Sidelines try Dtck WtM Congratulations are in order to Scott Freund, senior pole vaulter on Wally Scott's McHenry High track team. Scott broke the Crystal Lake FiekDwuse record last Saturday when he vaulted 13' to break the record by S inches. This has to be quite a feat when you realize that McHenry has no indoor vaulting facilities. Andy Oakley won the mile in the food time of 4:37. Looks as if the Warrior thinclads are going to be tough this spring when they get outdoors. At the end of the winter season the Warriors were in third place in the North Suburban All Sports race. Libertyville leads with 38 pts. followed by Barrington with 35, and our Warriors with 32. The Warriors took a first in cross country, a tie for sixth in football, a third in golf, a third place tie in basketball, and a ninth in wrestling. If the baseball, tennis, and track teams come through with flying colors, the Warriors could take home the championship. Next week we will give you a complete rundown on all the scoring by the teams in the North Suburban. More bouquets to Warrior basketball. Steve Koerber, Tommy Ludwig, and Terry Reilly being named to the McHenry County All Star team with places on the first team. Brett Decker who was honored on the second team, and Brian Lund who was given Honorable Mention. Placing all five starters on the thirteen, man squad is an indication what the county newspapers thought of the Warrior basketball team. Steve Koerber was selected to the All State Special Mention list, while Ludwig and Reilly were given Honorable Mention. Koerber was also selected on third team of the WKRS team, and again Ludwig and Reilly were given honorable mention. Terry Reilly was also selected on the Elgin Courier All Area Team, while Koerber and Ludwig were given Special Mention. At least Warrior fans were not the only people impressed with our team this season. Another honor went to Coach Ken Ludwig who was selected along with Jack Brenegan of Woodstock as Coaches of the Year for Class AA teams. Lou Ramirez of Richmond-Burton won the honors in Class A. S.I.H. came out of retirement and acted as the M.C. The genial Irishman was at his best and had the crowd in stitches with his stories of long age. Spring sports are just around thdl corner. Ken Swanson's baseball team opens the Mason at home against Carmel of Mundelein on Monday. Coach Gary Gray's tennis squad opens Tuesday against Grant, and next week Wally Scott's track team will open their outdoor season. It could be another banner season for Warrior athletics. We will be keeping you up to date on the various events as the season progresses, and here is hoping for Warrior victories in all sports. sssss <1 & •ft'/*;••« * • m PAGE 7 - PLAINDEALEU-FRIDAY.
