(STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD) EARL WALSH So I Hear SPORTS EDITOR. We have plucked some items from the Lutheran Digest in the past. Now the Catholic Digest has a dandy we want to pass along. Any other denomination want to help us? We take 'em as they come. This one hit our funny bone: Mrs. Paul Revere: I don't care who's coming. It's my night to use the horse!" The Lion "Say something good about the Cubs," said Bill DeVries as we visited his restaurant and pub in Wonder Lake. When we asked Bill what he wanted us to say about his great team, he couldn't think of a thing so changed the subject to his race horse. Yep. That's a race horse that Bill and Eddie Pieroni own. (The guy who told us it is a mule gave us the wrong in formation). Staying away from the subject of the Cubs, Bill let us know who would have the last laugh when their "Man of War" enters the Kentucky Derby. Dunking is back in the game of basketball--still not ap proved in doughnut eating. (STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD) LAKE REGION YMCA NEWS Maybe we don't understand what they mean by dunking a basketball through the nets, but feel darn sure we saw it many a time before the rules said it is OK. Spring is about to blossom out in all its glory any day. So will all the schemers who want to make a fast buck on home repairs. Salesmen will be calling with all kinds of fast pitches in various departments. Remember -- be mighty sure about them before you let them in your home. If a stranger is calling, don't sign a contract. And, don't give them any money until the deal has been checked out. Some of those salespersons are good people. Some are not. There are plenty of reliable firms to deal with so don't be in a hurry. Elderly people are often taken in by fast talkers. Try to warn them. As sure as April showers and May flowers come each year so do the sharp operators. Like most of you we had the flu the past winter and took some extra medication. Adding to the regular daily pills gave us a problem. Each label specified one after each meal. Not wanting to YMCA HAS SWIM LESSONS FOR HANDICAPPED YOUTHS Swim instruction for han dicapped youths is being of fered this April on Tuesday from 3:30-4:15 p.m. at the Lake Region YMCA in Crystal Lake. This program is for youths, minimum age being seven. One adult must accompany each participant in this program throughout the 45 minutes swim. Medical forms and ap plications can be obtained from the YMCA by calling 459-4455. A special brochure explaining this program can be also ob tained. The YMCA has a six lane, twenty-five yard heated indoor pool where these lessons take place at the west side of Route 31 just south of Highway 14. Stop in or call the YMCA today for further details on this program or any other of the numerous programs offered to pre-schoolers, youth, high school and adults. Good Deed Make someone happy today. Mind your own business! -Record, Columbia, S.C. double up on them, it took a lot of meals in a day to meet requirements. Our neighbor Bill Kreutzer was washing his car Saturday afternoon, but took time to holler that the Sox were losing 9 to 0. Didn't believe him. Told him he never listened to a Sox game in his life so how did he know the score. Holy smokers! The final score was 14-0. A revoltin' development. Heard that Mrs. Mitch Pr- zetacznik had switched over to the Sox since Bill Veeck took over. She denies the rumor. But, she did admit that when both teams are playing she will have the Cubs on TV and the Sox on radio. Give her time. She will see the light. BAJA SPA QUALITY EXERCISE EQUIPMENT TREADMILLS - TRAINING The JOHNSBURG RESCUE SQUAD sincerely thanks: Harmony Snowmobile Club, McHenry Moose Lodge, McHenry County Sheriffs Dept., and especially the sponsors & riders who participated in "RESCUE 50.' MCHENRY-6 GRANT-1 MCHENRYSCHOOL LEAGUE 3-31-76 Am personallv glad the last of regular play for this year is over, as I don't think there are too many with hearts strong enough to go thru another day like this one. The top place was really up for grabs and it wasn't until the 10th frame of the last game that the winner was FOR SURE. The "CHOCKERS" really came up and will carry home ' the trophy by a slim game. W. Coari finished off with both high game (190) and high series (540) while S. Blume took high series with a 437 and J. Gray amassed 173 for high game. S. Richmond likes picking off those spares and took care of the 4-10 this week (what, only once?) while D. Prazak went out in a blaze and took off the 1-2-10. Next week is FUN NIGHT, so we can all relax and enjoy ourselves. Prizes will be awarded for the "winners" of our odd games, so don't miss out. K. Lescher Pool Closed The McHenry West campus high school swimming pool will be closed for extensive repairs starting April 12 through the early part of June. Summer swimming lessons will be held as soon as the pool is available. The public will be in formed of the opening date. Notice Sports Pictures Since previous notices (starting last fall) have not been noted, this will be run from time to time. Being unable to use the many group pictures sent in, a decision was made to discontinue all league groups except cham pionship teams. Pictures taken by our staff photographers of athletes on the high school level will be selected as to their importance. Individual pictures of various sports will be appraised as to their newsworthy value and available space. It was a flood of group pictures last year that made this decision by the management necessary. I JACKSON ASPHALT PAVING ORDER EARLY % DRIVEWAY!
