COMPLETE FIRST AID COURSE - Ray Bieschke, American Red Cross First Aid and Personal Safety instructor awarded five Girl Scout leaders their certificate of completion at a ceremony held at the Girl Scout neighborhood meeting April 31. The eighteen-hour class was held over a period of six weeks and incorporated all the latest life-saving techniques. One of the highlights of the course was a presentation on drugs and drug abuse by Detective Voska of the Mcllenry County Sheriff's department. Alderson's home where we had the pleasure of Joy and Marshall Gerhke of Besmar Flowers as ourguest speakers. Mr. Gehrke demonstrated his unique ar­ tistry from corsages to a "floral sundae" complete with authentic glass container, to larger more formal pieces with ostrich feathers. We want to express our appreciation to Mr. and Mrs. Gehrke for an out­ standing evening and a lovely program. And I want to mention that the refreshments were just delicious. For our April 8 meeting, our hostess will be Gretchen Pose, 8310 Howe road, Ringwood. The day is Thursday and the time is 8 p.m. in the evening. Hope to see you there! Mrs. B. Alderson, publicity chairwoman BIRTHDAYS Happy birthday to Karl Rindt on April 8. Happy twelfth birth­ day to Billy Firnbach, son of JoAnn and Bill Firnbach, on April 8. Happy third birthday to Mioiele Brisinte, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Brisinte, on April 9, to Jean Hartmann on April 12, to Ruth Mathews Weiss on April 12 and to Marion (Nana) Draffkorn on April 13. For his fifth birthday party on Saturday, March 27. John Liggett shared a Choo-Choo- Train cake with his friends. This special train came loaded with red hot candies, mar- shmallows and peanuts. The little party people played games and enjoyed a lunch of hot dogs, chips, ice cream and strawberry milk. John, who is the son of Joann and Jack Liggett of Oakwood Shores, invited to his party: Jason Heaver. Patrick Huff, Erin Kelsey, Allen VanEvery, Ricky VanEvery. his brothers, David and Christopher and several other friends who were unable to come to the party due to a visit from a virus called "chickenpox". VACATIONERS Verona Huff and her daughter, Sandy, have returned from a ten day trip. They first winged their way to Anaheim, Ca., where they joined her son, Harold, his wife, Gail, and their two sons. Phillip and Jeffrey, for a few days sightseeing at Disneyland and nearby spots. From California they flew to Harold's home in Portland, Or., to continue their visit and celebrate Gail's birth­ day on March 27. NEWLYWEDS A party for the bride and groom was held on Sunday, March 28, at Christ the King hall, honoring Fred and Phyllis Gerich. The celebration was hosted by Fred's parents, Elisabeth and Matt Gerich of Indian Ridge, with friends and relatives toasting the honored couple. Fred and Phyllis met in Washington. D C. where he is stationed with the U.S. Marines On Tuesday, they returned to Washington where they will make their home. CONCERT BAND Harrison School varsity concert band earned a first rating at the district band contest on March 20. They will be in the state contest on May 1. at Lake Villa. Director of the Harrison band is Tom Rome. HAPPINESS IS...
