Hess of McHenry, county veterinarian, were surprised to hear that he had resigned his position with the county board committee for eradication of bovines tuberculosis to become effective May 1, after being connected with the county office for eight years. Dr. Hess tendered his resignation so that he might be free to accept a government transfer to New York city, where he will be associated with the meat in­ spection division of the U.S. Bureau of animal husbandry in the position of assistant veterinarian inspector to Dr. A F Straub. Mrs Peter Niesen. 64 years old, died at her home at Johnsburg, Wednesday af­ ternoon following an illness of influenza. She was born in Hafnburg, Germany. Nov. 8. 1871 and came to America at the age of 17. Mr. and Mrs. William Bamford and their two children of Beloit, Wi., have moved to the John Blake house on the corner of Court and Pearl streets. Mrs. Bamford is the daughter of Mrs. Morris Crouch. Mr. Bamford plans to operate a filling station here. R#9. 1.58 •Reg. 73c A total of 387 voters went to the polls last Tuesday in McHenry to elect three aldermen and a police magistrate. The only contest for the former was in Ward 2. Arnold Anderson, the in­ cumbent emerged the victor over Glen Dixon by a vote of % to 14. In all three wards, the public voted for police magistrate, with Larry J. Huck the winner in two wards and in the final count over John F. Buckie, with a vote of 218 to 149. Edward Albin Nordin, 61, died unexpectedly at the Woodstock hospital about 9 o'clock Tuesday evening, April ^7. He was taken ill after work and lived only a few hours. A son was born on April 13 at the Woodstock hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Harold M. Justen. William Kinsala, Waukegan road, a sixth quarter executive interior decorating student at Woodbury college, Los Angeles, has recently been appointed a reporter on the staff of the college newspaper, "Woodberries". He is a member of the Phi Gamma Kappa Honors Scholarship society. ' Miss Lucille Regner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Regner of Ingleside and organist at Little Jacks, an exclusive Joliet night club, was given a five-dollar award last week in connection with a safety program. The award was presented to her by Dr. M.D. Abrams of the Joliet Optical company. TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of April 14, 1966) Carl Buckner, 53, superin­ tendent of schools in McHenry for the past eight years, died of a heart attack sometime early Wednesday, April 13, as he slept. Louise Matthesius of McHenry is the first entry in the 1966 Marine Festival Queen contest. Voters in School District No. 12, Johnsburg, will go to the polls April 16, to vote on two propositions designed to assure improved and enlarged educational facilities for the children of both grade schools in that community. Major and Mrs. Raymond J. DeThorne of the U.S. Engineer corps and his family were recent guests at the home of his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Helen DeThorne, on Court street. Mr. and Mrs. Tony Freund of Johnsburg road attended the graduation of their son, Ted, from the Great Lakes Naval training center April 8. After a two-week leave visiting his family and friends, he will leave for San Diego, Ca., for his new assignment. Miss Joan Adams, daughter of Mrs. Alfons Adams, McHenry, has been named to the Dean's honor list at Lewis Towers, Loyola university, Chicago. Mr. and Mrs. Eric Swanson are the parents of a son bom April 4 at McHenry hospital. An interesting neighborhood fair sponsored by Valley View Girl Scouts is scheduled for April 17 at the Junior high school gymnasium.
