The Cubs looked like bush leaguers in the opener at St. Louis, but people tell us they have done quite well since. Right fielder Reggie Smith may have gone a bit too far in his storm against the umpires on Sunday. Spirit is one thing . An athlete losing his head when thousands of kids are watching is another thing. It is one man's opinion thalt big time newspapers must be short of news when they have to dig up sensational stories of the past, especially when some of the characters are dead and cannot defend themselves. Many new faces loom up in the big league box scores and many of them are south of the border names. Lively ball players come from those parts where the climate is good for baseball through many moons. High school news will cover a lot of space in your sports section this issue. We like it. Especially since Larry Lund says we can have the space, Dick Rabbitt turns it in, and JoAnn Hutchinson now assists our "Little Helen" in setting the type. As long as copy is in on time, the shop bossman (Dick Sagers) takes good care of our needs. There was a time when it wasn't possible to set some of the more difficult statistics that are now a part of it all. Some short stories do not rate by-lines in the newspaper world, but credit high school reports to Dick. Now here is an interesting release from Lewis University located in Lockport, Illinois : In 1775 Paul Revere rode approximately 12 miles from Charlestown to Concord to help our country. This has been a very suc cessful year in athletics for the girls teams at Montini. They started out with a Softball team made up of 19 7th and 8th graders. Paula Hansen was the captain of the team which came in 2nd place in the Fox Valley Conference losing one game to Richmond. For the basketball season we had two teams. Debbie Her- drich was captain of the 8th grade team which came in 5th place and Kathy Sabatka was the captain of the 7th grade team which tied for first place. They lost the play off game which put them in second place. In the Avon Invitational tournament a combination 7th and 8th grade basketball team < came in third place. Three volleyball teams represented Montini this year. Carrie Freund was captain of the 'A' team (all 8th graders) which came in thrid place. Peggy McGee was captain of the 'B' team ( a combination 7th and 8th grade team) which also came in third.
