Read this issue of the Plaindealer! The young people are making news, and most of it is good. The problem is not that the good deeds are few, or that they are not reported. It is only that people are trouble-oriented these days and tend to gloss over good news they read. Metropolitan newspapers, in their bid for subscribers, feature stories that will win readership. That's how they stay in business. Smaller newspaper competition is heading in the same direction. If they relegate to unim portance something people want to read, unpleasant as it may be. their readers are quick to ask why it was not reported with prominence and in detail. More important, these same readers are apt to let their subscription lapse and sub- (Continued on page 16) The Detective division of the McHenry County Sheriff's department is conducting an investigation into an armed robbery reported at the Richard A. Novak residence, 621 Rand road, Lilymoor, just before midnight Sunday. Novak's mother , Mrs. Virginia Novak, was at the home taking care of one of the children while the rest of the family was dining out. She told authorities three men, one ar med, forced their way into the home and demanded money. Former Area Pastor Dead At Age 48 Rev. Fr. Adolph H. Schwegel of McHenry was sentenced last week on one count of failure to file an in come tax return for the year 1970. Schwegel. who resides at 4301 Clearview drive, is sole owner of Paul A. Schwegel & Co., an accounting and tax preparation Grandmother Bound As Intruder Ransacks House Mrs. Novak was tied up and placed on a couch while the three men ransacked the in terior of the residence. The three intruders did ob tain an undetermined amount of cash and a cash register. They fled the scene without harming Mrs. Novak or the small child who slept through the entire incident. Mrs. Novak succeeded in freeing herself and phoned police. The identity of the men was still unknown Monday. Schwegel had pleaded guilty last March 22 to failing to file a 1970 return on income of $113,319 17. I'nder existing law. a person convicted of criminal tax of fenses, in addition to whatever sentence is imposed, is also required to pay the tax determined to be due as well as interest and civil penalties that may be assessed The investigation of Sch wegel was conducted by special agents of the Internal Revenue Service Intelligence division Solicit Volunteer Groups In Massive Cleanup Of River Volunteer groups are being solicited to aid in a massive stream cleanup of the Fox and DesPlaines rivers on two dates in May. The request is being made by the Illinois Depart ment of Conservation. Four segments of river are to be scoured for cans, bottles and other debris in and alongside the stream beds. Locally, the date is May 15, when volunteers will meet at 9 a.m. at the McHenry Dam State park for assignments and. conservation on the river. Specially targeted are State Park frontage, Rt 176 bridge. Rt 14 in Cary and Fox river conservation area. Coordinator is fishery biologist, Harvey Brown, who can be reached at 344-0477, or by mail at 617 S. Lily Lake road. McHenry The purpose of the cleanup is not just beautification, said Biologist Gary Erickson, coordinator for the other cleanup operation. Garbage recycling and education of the j public are important, as well, be said.. Rivers are Illinois major aquatic resource, he pointed out, but are often valued far less than our lakes Perhaps the most ambitious program will take place in Lake county, where Erickson has obtained the cooperation of the Lake County Highway and Public Works departments in removing debris. Scouting, church, school, environmental, sporting and service organizations were all being sought for help in the cleanup. Erickson said. Four people were taken to McHenry hospital by the Rescue, squad as a result of the crash Thomas Hinger of 1017 River road, McHenry and his passenger. Robert C. Jaques of 1413 Beach drive, McHenry, were taken to the hospital for treatment, as were the driver of the other car, Jesus M. Diaz, and his passenger, Benito Arrayo,, both of 502 North avenue, Waukegan. Hinger told deputies he started to make a right turn from Charles road onto the highway when an unidentified vehicle behind him. passed on his right and also made a right turn onto the highway. In order to avoid a collision. Hinger continued into the east-bound lane, where he collided with the Diaz auto which was east- bound on the highway. Diaz agreed with Hinger's account of the accident The other car left the scene and neither driver could provide a description of the car. Frank W. Moser of Twin Lakes. Wilt, Jr., M.D., chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine at McHenry hospital and president of the McHenry County Board of Health, will visit Great Britain this summer for an eight-week study of programs for care of the aged administered by the British National Health service Dr. Wilt has been invited to present his findings at the annual meeting of the Illinois Association of Boards of Health, of which he is president. He will also submit his full study in thesis form to the University of Illinois Graduate School of Public Health, to satisfy in part its requirements for his Master's degree in Public Health.
