The Warriors will send two relay teams to the state finals. The 880 relay composed of Bill Mugatroyd, Howie and Denny Useman and Loren Klapperich. Also the mile relay team of Brian Nuss, Greg Thornton, Howie Useman and Loren Klapperich. "EARL WALSH So I Hear SPORTS EDITOR--I JOE FRETT MEMORIAL - They will never forget Joe Frett in Johnsburg or any other place where he was known and loved. The fourth annual Johnsburg Men's invitational golf outing trill be held on Saturday this year, June 19. Of course there will be liquid refreshments and a dinner at the Community Club at 7 p.m. Each year the event attracts people from Johnsburg, McHenry and from all points north, south, east and west. Besides the golf outing, they have a big time. And that's just what Joe Frett would want them to do. Friday morning as we sat in our car near the Gies shoe Store, out comes Chuck with an uncertain smile. Chuck is a Cub fan. The Cubs had just traded Andy Thorton to Montreal. On Thursday night Andy had crashed a 2 - run homer to beat his old team. Of course, we tried to console Chuck. Tony Willians called our attention to a story in the May Reader's Digest -- "Fountain of Youth". The title might fool a person since it describes the old- fashioned soda fountain. Tony remembered that we described the fountain in Bill Brown's drug store in Ringwood one time. Those were the days!! John and Margaret Bauer of Woodlawn Park made a donation to the "Nellie Fox Cancer Benefit Day" and were surprised to receive two tickets' for a game at Comiskey Park. The game was rained out, but will be played at some future date. We'll be watching for that date 'cause our good friends sent us their tickets. Lost a great old friend last week when Nick Pitzen was called to his Maker. Nick must have been near 80 years old when he still had the strength of a tornado and the heartiest laugh you can imagine. He was a lot of man and man we liked a lot. We treasure a rare picture "The Old Station Agent" which be brought to our office a few years ago. It is a prize. It has been big fun watching the White Sox win seven straight games. Of course, some of you weren't watching. OLD TIME SAYING: When a couple, thought to be strange or let's say different, was in the courtin' stage, Old Timers would shake their heads and say: "God made 'em -- He matched 'em." High school sports are heading for the end of a busy season. With the approval of Publisher Larry Lund and the fine work of Dick Rabbitt and Staff Photographer Wayne Gaylord, we ran sports over onto a second page most of the time. Foreman Dick Sagers shook his head many a time, but managed to get it all to-gether. Now the summer sports activity will take over and that's just fine. Like the man for all seasons, the Plaindealer has a sports section for all seasons. Gary Harrison had to come back to Illinois to find out about the Sox winning streak. His mother is a Cub fan so she doesn't send word. Eddie Buss and Gene Schaefer now expect the cry to go out: "Break Up The White Sox." May 14, Globe Sales 40 - Adams Enterprises 0. Terry lost in the finals of the North Chicago district this past weekend when he was defeated by the North Suburban's number one player, and a ranking national player Kreg Yingst of Libertyville 6-1, 6-0. Thus for the first time in the short history of tennis at McHenry, the Warriors have cjualified a boy for the state finals. The Warriors with Reilly leading the pack finished third behind the winner Libertyville. Best wishes are accorded the "Radar" this weekend at Arlington Heights. The purpose will be to promote and advance the welfare of the Boy's league through good public relations within the community. The "gals" have a number of fund raising projects, that will off set the high cost of running a boys' league, namely uniforms and equiptment and also will be assisting in other areas that the coaches and managers simply do not have enough time to do. This is a start in the right direction. Anyone wishing to help contact Saundra. Each week the game scores will be published - it is up to the managers however, to phone them in to 'Publicity' chair man. If you have any questions call Mrs. Civalt. 385-1181. Being unable to use the many group pictures sent in, a decision was made to i discontinue all league groups except cham pionship teams. Pictures taken by our staff photographers of athletes on the high school level will be selected as to their importance. Individual pictures of various sports will be appraised as to their newsworthy value and available space. It was a flood of group pictures last year that made this decision by the management necessary.
