This four-year scholarship gives full tuition, payment for books and $100 per month for four years at Notre Dame university. He was selected at Maxwell Air Force base by a board who screened 2,100 applicants. There were only seven Air Force ROTC scholarship recipients from Illinois. Karyl Bryniarski and W. Bret Jackson were recipients of the American Legion awards. Cindy Malinski won the John Dreymiller scholarship, with Calinda Leonard as alternate. The Chicago Tribune scholarship went to Mark Snyder and the International Register Co. award to Bryan O'Neill. Ellen Quinlan was presented the March of Dines scholarship. McHenry hospital awards went to Karen Freund, Cindy Malinski and Ellen Quinlan, while Memorial hospital awards were won by Cindy Malinski and Mary Morowski. Michael L.Schoen, 33, of 111 Monroe, North Aurora, was arrested by St. Louis police after he was seen displaying a large quantity of currency thought to be counterfeit. Schoen entered the Algonquin State bank Monday, May 17, and displayed a blue steel revolver. He took $6,000 from the bank and fled through a rear door. Besides the federal charge of bank robbery, St. Louis police charged Schoen with illegal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of a knife and illegal possession of drugs.
