When the members of the Ladies auxiliary to VFW Post 4600 of McHenry returned from the state convention held in Kosemont, some of them were proud recipients of awards presented there. Renee Jende, junior past president of the local auxiliary and Cancer chairman, received a trophy for having attained the quota per member as designated by the national auxiliary. The quota plus had been donated for the National VFW Ladies auxiliary Cancer Aid and Research fund. Qprry Kuck, secretary and publicity chairman, was the recipient of a special award in recognition of an outstanding article written on the history of the auxiliary. The article ap­ peared in the McHenry Plaindealer 100th anniversary issue. Lucille Garifi and Ila Hogan were both presented the sewing pin which is a new award, in its second year, in connection with the hospital program. This award is earned by a member sewing, knitting or crocheting either ditty bags, lap robes or booties for patients at the veterans administration hosptials. Each- item made earns hours spent and when a total of 150 hours is reached the individual receives her award..' New officers for the 1976-77 year were installed before the convention closed Sunday, June 27. Installed as president for. the Ladies auxiliary to Veterans of Foreign Wars of the State of Illinois was Patricia Essington of Bradley, ilinois. Other officers installed to serve with her were Eileen Tanner; senior vice-president; Lorraine Johnson, junior vice- president; Doris Langenbahn, chaplain; Carolyn Gorin, conductress and Doris Homann, guard.
