MARGARET O'NEIL Clerk of the Court „ (Pub. Jun 25, Jul 2 & 9,1976) WILLIAM H. WALTER Assignees of purchaser (Pub. July 7,9,14,1976) (by David G. Plocher, Ex tension Adviser, Agriculture, McHenry County) _ Much or the success of a swine project is predetermined by genetics and the early growth of the hog. But pre-show management and training as well as show ring technique can mean the difference between a good hog and a champion. Here are some tips for preparing your hog for the fair: Feeding At home, feed a complete mixed ration containing 14 to 16-percent protein. Self-feeding will give fastest gains. But you may need to hand-feed during jthe last few weeks before the show to keep the pigs from getting fat. If the hogs are light, wet the feed to increase their feed consumption. * f Provide plenty of clean fresh water and keep self-feeders and troughs clean. Do not feed more than the pigs can eat in a half- hour. More frequent feeding will help them eat more. At the fair, feed your hogs in the same pens used at home. Limit the ration to about four to six pounds peroey. Bran can be mixed with the fefedst«f prevent constipation. If possible, feed them outside their pens during the coolest part of the day. After the fair, return the pigs to full feed. Conditioning Hog shows are usually held during the hottest part of the year. At home, provide ample water and shade for your hogs, because summer comfort is essential for good appetites and maximum gains. At the fair, a large fan will help keep hogs cool. / Exercise helps condition your hogs to keep them trim and firm. It may be necessary to confine young hogs in a small space to "push" for more rapid gain. But, if this is done, daily exercise is a must-preferably during the coolest part of the day. I Develop a routine schedule of driving and handling your hogs Legal Notice The Boar£l ofEducation of McHenry Community High School District 156 will receive sealed bids on Industrial Arts Equipment for the 1976-77 school year. Bids will be accepted until 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 26, 1976. Specifications may be obtained at the Board of Education Office, 3926 W„ Main St., McHenry. Michael Kelly Business Manager (Pub. Jul. 9,1976) every day for two or three weeks before the show. Use a cane or short whip, a pig hurdle for boars, and a small brush for quick cleanups. Be sure you can control your animal. The judge may overlook a potential ribbon winner if it cannot be con trolled. Feed your hogs only a small amount before hauling them to show. They do not travel comfortably after full feeding. Do not overcrowd them in the truck or trailer. And for long, warm-weather hauls, cover the top of the truck to block direct sunlight and provide a com fortable bedding like wet sand. And truck them during the coolest part of the day. Unload the hogs as soon as possible and allow them to rest in lightly bedded pens. Pens on the north and east sides of the barn will be the coolest. Change damp bedding promptly as it becomes hot and steamy- - If the hogs are not hot, water them immediately and offer them some feed. Allow thpn to rest during the first day', hut every day thereafter exercise them when it is cool. If a hog becomes overheated, apply water only to the. nose, legs, and underline. In The Show Ring 3 " '<• Watch the judge at all times, and be prepared to follow his instructions promptly. Avoid any distractions both inside and outside the ring. . i Try to keep your pigs at a slow walk about 10 to 15 feet away from the judge where he can see your pig better. Drive your pig toward an open space. And use a cane or whip to keep him moving. Don't put your hands on the pig's back-this tends to make the pig show badly. If the pig seems to get tired, let him stop and rest oc casionally while the judge looks at another pig. . When you enter the ring, be sure your pig is clean. Your appearance is important, too. And always be sportsmanlike and courteous to the judge and other exhibitors. The Law Serves You \z When Making A Will, Choose Executor Carefully Selection of an executor is one of the important con siderations when a will is drawn. But, according to the Illinois State Bar association, many persons fail to consider who will be in charge of ad ministering their affairs after they are gone. The Illinois State Bar association advises that when you make your will, you should not only outline the manner in which you want your estate to be distributed, but you should also name an executor for your estate, unless it can be settled without probating it. Your executor has an important role to play in settling your estate, and you should select your executor with these duties in mind. The executor is responsible for the following tasks: 1. Carrying out any in structions in the will for funeral and burial, and paying the bills. 2. File the will for probate, locate witnesses, notify all pereons interested in the estate, assemble and safeguard the assets, examine accounts and recordis, and make j» complete inventory of them. to carry on the iness, if ect debts bqsin< id co*H< 3. Arrange decedent's - necessary, and due the estate. 4. Ascertain and pay the Federal Estate Tax and Illinois Inheritance tax, as well as file a Federal income tax return on the estate. 5. Liquidate the assets if the will so directs, and set up any trusts called for in the will. 6. Pay any legacies' and secure receipts and releases before making a final ac counting. Choosing a competent person is an important consideration at the time your will is prepared. Executors are often a member of the family or an acquaintance who is capable, Vith professional advice, of performing the many tasks required. According to the Illinois State Bar association, the executor need not reside in the same state as the person making the will. When the executor is a non-resident, he or she must designate a resident agent to accept service of process, notice or demand. If the executor fails to do so,-the clerk of the court is designated as the agent.
