Big John suddenly- decided he wanted to hear our voice after the All-Star game. One of these years we are going to win some cigar money from him on a World Series bet. There will be sweetness in every puff The hot days brought some relief as we saw a Santa Claus in one window and a Christmas tree in another That town of Chowchilla where the bus load of children were abducted is where the Frank and Marian Justen ranch is located Didn't think we would ever see that name Chowchilla broadcast from coast to coast. Bet Alex and Elvera Justen will recognize the area. Don't Carp If You Catch Carp In Derby Chicago, Illinois, July 12, 1976...Carp. The very name conjures up the image of mud flats, a nasty taste, and filthy, turbid waters -- often in the minds of people who have never tasted this "rough fish". Contrary to its slimy image, the carp can be an enjoyable fish to catch and eat. An ex cellent Chance to become more acquainted with this Eurasian delicacy of old is through the Chain O'Lakes Carp Derby scheduled for July 23 , 24 and 25. The derby is a charity fund raiser for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation with co- sponsorship by the Illinois Department of Conservation, the Fox Lake Chamber of Commerce, and resort and bait shop owners in the1 Chain O'Lakes area. Those bringing in the biggest and most carp will be awarded prizes of fishing tackle. Fishermen can enter at most of the bait shops or resorts in the Chain All proceeds go to help children who are victims of cystic fibrosis and related respiratory disorders Fish may be taken in any legal manner, including by bow and arrow Part of the value of a carp contest, in the eyes of some fishermen, is in removing carp as much as possible from waters that would otherwise support some desirable game fish. And -- we didn't know that! The Fox Hole softball team toured up to Trevor. Wis. on the Fourth of July to play in a tournament The team came home with a beautiful first place trophy which "Red" wasn't exactly hiding.
