Ringwood News 653-9008 653-9262 728-0295 Rlngwood Church Dinner Pleases Crowd Of 700 It was a very tired but happy group of workers who finally left the church grounds last Sunday after serving 700 people. All the help and donations were greatly ap preciated by the committee members. Among the diners were Betsy (Fossum) Glessner and her two daughters from Fairbanks, Alaska, who are visiting Betsy's mother, Mrs. Bobbi Fossum. Also joining the group were Sue (Fossum) Thornton and her children from Michigan. Quite a distance to travel for barbecued chicken. The Ringwood chicken barbecue is something that originated back in 1966 with "Ringwood Days" festivities, and with the loyal support of many folks in the area, it has grown year after year. We just hope the weatherman will continue to be as cooperative as he has the past ten years. RETURNS TO FRANCE It was with regret that we bid farewell to Cedric Bayle last week as he left our community to return to his home in Paris, France. Cedric has made his home here in the United States this past year with the Walter Bidlak family on Draper road under the sponsorship of the "Youth for Understanding" program. He attended McHenry community high school this past year and was very active in the Ringwood United Methodist church participating in the U.M.Y. group, the church choir, and confirmation class. Cedric was honored at farewell parties given by the Cherry Valley 4-H club, the U.M.Y., and neighbors and friends of the Bidlaks. Waiting to welcome him home in Paris is his twin sister, mother and grandmother. ABOUT TOWN We are very happy to get the good news that Hazel Bowman has been released from the hospital and is now con valescing nicely at home. Visitors at the Brennan- Hepburn home this weekend were Mr. and Mrs. John Black- man of Antioch, Mr. and Mrs. Ken Brennan, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Soddy and Miss Mary Swenson of Kenosha. Two weeks ago the Zells went out to Ohio to visit with son, Tom Davis, and his wife, Elanore, and grandchildren, Tom and Tammy. Tammy came home with grandma and spent a week here, as daddy Tom was away on business in Mexico City and planned to stop in Chicago to pick Tammy up by plane and fly the rest of the way home with her. Bev Ackerman and daughters, Rachel and Rhonda spent two week's in Florida visiting with relatives, cam ping and showing daughter, Resae Robinett, her wedding pictures. To add to the hectic times, while they were cam ping a good storm came over and blew the tent down on Bev (the little girls were in the van sleeping) and then were reluctant to let mom in out of the storm. If you like watermelon, then you should be down south, they said, as you can pick in some places for free, but they are dead ripe, and they are letting the cattle in to eat them. Can you just imagine, they can buy them for as little as 50 cents to 4 for a dollar. GRANDPARENTS HOME Bob and Martha Betts are the proud grandparents of Aaron Bork and they, of course, went to visit the little fellow two weeks ago and grandma Martha stayed on for a week to be with Debbie and her new son. llien grandpa Bob went back to Rock Island last weekend to see little Aaron and to bring grandma home. (Guess who's lonesome?) Needless to say both are just busting at the seams. Bets are on as to how many short trips are coming up to Rock Island. Congratulations to all the families. CHURCH PICNIC Saturday night found a gfeat many people attending the picnic at church, good old- fashion gab fest, songs sung by the "Sweet Adelines** #nd then an exhibition of square-dancing with the folks joining. And don't you know that some of the folks haven't lost the know-how! It surely was a good old-fashion time at which neighbors new and old joined hands and do-se- doed and honored their part ners.
