It was a warm day and the crowd received brief showers of Fox river water as they viewed the action and cheered for their favorites. Debbie Carro, Miss McHenry, addresses the crowd, announcing the schedule of events for Festival Week. In the finals, Fox River Grove took fourth place and Carpentersville captured third. A tough battle developed between the strong Woodstock City and Woodstock Rural teams in the finals with City capturing the honors of first place. Debbie presented trophies to the winners. Staff Photos By Wayrfe Gaylord jg Former Resident Is Named "Outstanding" The board of advisors for the Outstanding Young Women of America Awards program has announced today that Virginia Klauss Caudill, 713 Harris avenue, Austin, Tx., has been selected for inclusion in the 1976 edition of Outstanding Young Women of America She for­ merly made her home in McHenry. The Outstanding Young Women of America program is designed to honor and en­ courage exceptional young women between the ages of 21 and 36 who have distinguished themselves in their homes, in their professions and in their c o m m u n i t i e s . A c c o m ­ plishments suchvas these are the result of dedication, service and leadership. Mrs. Caudill, aloi\g with approximately 7,000 fellow Outstanding Young Women of America Oom across the United States, will be presented in the prestigious annual awards volume. In addition, they are now being considered for one of the fifty-one state awards to be presented to those women who have made the most noteworthy contributions in their individual states. From these fifty-one state winners, the Ten Outstanding Young Women of America will be chosen. The ten national winners will then be honored at the annual awards luncheon to be held this Fall in Washington, DC Gem-Mineral Society Studies Ten Types Ore The Hiawatha Gem and Mineral society will hold its next meeting at 7:30 Tuesday, Aug. 3, in the downstairs meeting room of the McHenry city hall. Frederick Leffer gave a very good presentation of Part 6 of the instruction series at the last meeting, which covered ten types of ore common to the United States. Part 7 of the instruction series will be covered at the meeting, and two proposed field trips for October will be discussed. Anyone interested in the hobby of "rock hounding" is invited to the meeting, and welcome to participate in the group field trips. LICENSE DEADLINE Secretary of State Michael J. HowLett has cautioned second division vehicle owners that current 1976 fiscal year license plates will be illegal after midnight, July 30. This will be the last day of the 30-day ex­ tension which Secretary Howlett authorized from the statutory June 30 deadline. BEACH REPORT Water samples collected from swimming beaches by the McHenry County Department of Health July 19 and July 20 were obtained from several beaches on the Fox river and from some of the lakes in the county. Those beaches at which there has been two consecutive unsatisfactory samples and which the department will be posting as unsafe for swimming are Haeger's Bend and Sun­ ny side. • * * * No one can afford seri­ ous mistakes but every­ one makes them.
