It will feature McHenry's own version of the Andrews Sisters and a fine orchestra will perform. A $16,000 equipment truck, a $23,000 MICU-Trauma am bulance, a $4,000 MICU Am- Pak, and a $2,000 new alerting system have recently been purchased by the Rescue squad. Eor this year the fund raising drive is more important than ever, according to Squad Treasurer Richard Seaborn. Seaborn explains that due to the advent of the Medical In tensive Care unit program in the State of Illinois, it is necessary for the rescue squad to purchase new equipment to update present equipment., "It used to be that when the squad went on a call its primary function was to ad minister basic first aid and transport the victim to a hospital," noted Seaborn. "Today, rescue squad mem bers must go through much more training, and the first aid they administer is much more sophisticated." Most of the twenty-three volunteer members of John sburg's Rescue squad have already completed some ad vance training. The squad has thirteen who qualify as emergency medical technicans No. 1, and five members who have advanced to become paramedics. The Johnsburg Rescue squad is the first rescue squad ever to be chartered in the state of Illinois. Next year it will celebrate its twenty-fifth an niversary. "We are not tax-supported," said Seaborn, "and we rely entirely on contributions to meet equipment and operating expenses. Our operating ex penses alone are $1,200 per month." Contributions may be sent to the Johnsburg Rescue squad at 3621 N. Chapel Hill road, McHenry. Know sJHg Dairy A lovely University of Illinois sophomore is the new Illinois Dairy Princess. Debbie Muller, 19-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Muller of Washington, in Tazewell county, was crowned Tuesday to climax a two-day contest sponsored by the American Dairy Association of Illinois. Hosted by the McHenry County Dairy Promotion council, the event was attended by more than 200 guests. They saw Rochelle Wilier, 18, of Quincy named first runner-up; Sue Ellen Helmkamp, 17, of Moro, Madison county, second runner-up, and Regina Perenchio, 19, Harvard, fourth place. Is it true that the eye is sometimes com pletely clear while for hun dreds of miles on each side the sky is filled with clouds? The eye of a hurricane ' is never more than a few miles, usually less than five. It's true that some times in the middle of the great storm--in the eye, so to speak--the sky overhead will suddenly appear blue. Winds will calm down and for a few minutes a strange stillness will de scend--with roaring winds just a few miles distant in all directions. This is the very center of the circular motion of the winds (coun terclockwise), the hubjof a great blowing circle. The lull soon ends and when the winds return--they are from the opposite di rection--and often just as st.rnn a as before. Chocolate Candy For centuries in Europe, choc olate was a drink concocted by mixing coarsely ground cocoa, sugar and water. In 1819, F.I. Cailler of Switzerland invented the machinery to blend it smoothly in quantity. The first chocolate candy was produced in 1875, also in Switzerland, made with milk and achieved instant success. The first filled chocolate candies were developed in the same country in 1913. It was long ago when my beloved "rolling stone" uncle visited my home, brimming with stories of the fascinat ing, delightful South Seas. I had been convinced that life in this land would be a forever-happy thing. ^ And now the magical moment had come. 1 foundthat the sky was, indeed, bluer than blue, the flowers brilliant and luxurious, the sea clear and everchang- ing. Yes, it was all this and more. fiut one day as I stood on the shore listening to the roaring rhyme of the waves, 1 realized that I was no happier than 1 had been before. 1 discovered that my problems were within me. How could I have assumed that happiness would be guaranteed on an enchanted island? These thoughts prompted me to return to my church which I had ignored for many years. Here I found my faith was renewed, and 1 found self-respect and understanding that come from loving God and doing His will. 1 sensed anew that no man can expect to experience true happiness without Him. Hurry to your church -- there to find the ingredients to make your days and your life glad and secure. Copyright 1976 Keister Advertising Service.
