On The Sidelines by Dick Rabbitt . high school athletic season is under way and already the Warriors can chalk up a couple of victories. Hutchis Cross Country team easily defeated Antioch and Schaumburg Tuesday at West Campus. Before the meet the Schaumburg coach was expounding on the merits of his team. He led us to believe that this was a mere practice run for his talented squad, and they could get better competition at their own practice. Needless to say ne was a very quiet gentlemen at the conclusion of the meet Tuesday. Hutch's boys show plenty of the old moxie on a hot and humid day. As the season progresses look for the team to improve, and be a solid contender in this area. Coach Chuck Cuda's golf team opened with a nice win over Grant at the McHenry Country Club. It looks as if there is a member of the Buss family that is going to challenge the old boy for family honors. A 152 total for the team is excellent for this time of year. Let's hope that the golfers can keep it up, and bring some more trophifes to McHenry High. Tonight Coach Bill Day will have his Warriors at McCracken Field for the opener against an old foe the Crystal Lake Tigers. In the Soap Bowl game last Friday night the veteran coach had a chance to look over his whole squad under game conditions. He was quite pleased with the results, and the errors committed last week will be gone this week I'm sure, because this week they worked on the mistakes made last Friday night. This writer would like to commend those people who contributed to The Danny Voigt Memorial at the Soap Bowl game last week. About two hundred dollars was collected, and your kindness was really appreciated. Only a few new rule changes this year for football. They are in regards to safety. No using the head, helmet, or face mask for tackling. Penalty is 15 big ones. You may have noticed a lot of penalties called last week. Coming up to the line of scrimmage without a mouthpiece in place is a 5 yd. penalty, and if the ball is in play and discovered that a mouth piece is not in place, then a 15 yd. penalty is enforced. Another new rule this year is if the defensive team jumps offside, even though they do not make contact, it is a 5 yd. penalty. The last two infractions were in evidence last Friday night. The North Suburban should be a tough conference again this year. Barrington in their last season has vowed to go out a winner. The ZeeBees, Libertyville, Lake Forest, McHenry and Crystal Lake should be in the thick of things. So come out tonight and support the Warriors. Kickoff is at 8:00 p.m. "mm fflpL.. * \ w f y.
