RTE. 120 PHONE 385-7300 Din Din time and these healthy puppies are going at it. There are four of them now. Originally there were five in the litter found in a box by the roadside, half-starved, and one didn't make It. They are mixed breed with strong evidence of some hound in the background. Three males and one female, 11 weeks old, they romp with neighborhood chUdren and are very happy puppies now. Call 312-439-2881 if you are interested in adopting one. (Photocom Photo) HELPING PAWS Bv Estelle Atwell Another candidate for the Ugly Americans club, with full- fledged credentials to qualify him - this man had adopted a dog from Helping Paws. Not long afterward, he sold his house and moved away leaving the unfortunate and lonesome dog behind to fend for himself by wandering in the neigh borhood. The fact that he could be hit by a car or starve to death just didn't concern his owner. Days later when the new owners of the house moved in, they found a poor hungry dog with mustard on its face who had been eating the former owner's garbage. What dog needs a turncoat owner like this fellow? The story has a happy ending, however. The new owners of the house became the new owners of the abandoned dog. This is just one of the potentially sad tales called to the attention of Helping Paws, an animal welfare organization. Helping Paws maintains an office, hours 10 to noon, and one to 3 p.m., Mon day through Friday. Phone 459- 2641. The McHenry County Animal Control center, 11608 Banford road, Woodstock, was formerly a commercial kennel for raising dogs. Space is limited particularly when it comes to cats and kittens as there are not enough accommodations for them. Until more can be done for the cats and kittens it would be helpful to have owners cooperate in their placement - advertising, word of mouth efforts, etc. DOGS FOR ADOPTION Spaniel mix female, IV2 years, spayed, black spots on white, housebroken, shots, needs fenced yard. Newman Club At MCC Opens Fall Season The first Fall meeting of Newman Club at McHenry County college will be Thur sday, Sept. 23, at 12:30 p.m. in Room 145 at MCC. At this meeting, Newman members will elect officers. The following Thursday a discussion will take place. The talks are open to MCC students and a discussion and question period will follow. The Newman members feel there are many pressing issues of the day and want to have some type of opportunity to express their views in the midst of a changing world. Discussions will occur each Thursday unless there is a meeting. A get-acquainted welcome party and other events are being planned at the Fox Valley campgrounds for October, plus the annual Halloween party. The Newman community welcomes all in its endeavor to develop and maintain Christian attitudes and values. It fosters an openness and maturity among its members to develop a spirit of community. En couraging the willingness to undertake responsibilities among its members, it provides outlets for the expression and development of their talents and abilities through its ac tivities which stress religious, social, educational and social action involvement. Newman members have a discussion period Thursdays from 12:30p.m. until 2 p.m. The topic of discussion is chosen by the students and then someone who is an authority speaks and discusses it. Set Farm Income Tax School For Consultants Keeping up with the latest interpretations of federal and state income tax rules and regulations poses quite a problem, even for tax prac titioners and consultants. But the problem won't be quite as big for northeastern Illinois tax practitioners who enroll in a two day tax school sponsored by the University of Illinois Cooperative Extension service. This year's school is scheduled for Nov. 16 and 17 at the Old Towne hall in Crystal Lake. The school is designed for those who prepare income tax returns for others, not for in dividuals who prepare their own returns. The school will deal generally with preparing farm tax returns -but in formation relating to all types of returns will be taught. Instructors will be from the Springfield and Chicago districts of the Internal Revenue Service, and from the Illinois Department of Revenue. The instructors have had special training for the school. Advance enrollment is required, and attendance will be limited. Details about enrollment are available from George Young, P.O. Box 431, Woodstock, II., 60098 There is an enrollment fee for each participant. WATER, WATER...Sprinkler irrigation systems give Ufesaving water to summer crops in Western Idaho.
