Richard K. Smith of King Enterprises, Inc., Palatine, appeared before the City Council Monday night to ask clarification of a letter he received from Mayor Stanek as city liquor commissioner. Stanek informed Smith by letter that he will not issue a Class "H" beer and wine liquor license to him as he requested at the Sept. 7 Council meeting. Smith argued that at that meeting, the Council gave approval to issuing a Class "H" license to him. However, at that meeting Stanek did mention that the final o.k. for issuing the license would have to come from him since he is liquor commissioner. Smith said he was confused because he thought he had the license and informed the owner of the property where he plans to build a short order restaurant on Route 120, just west of the Citgo station. Stanek explained that his action "was being taken for the good of the city". If Smith wished to take the matter further, it appeared he would have to take legal recourse, Stanek commented. Smith replied, "I am a persistent young man and that's what I will do."
