• • I Painting Exhibit Open Personality House KRISTY DAY AND STEVE MAI ROYALTY CANDIDATES - Excitement is accelerated as the weekend of Homecoming approaches and activities reach the final completion stages. Above are pictured two couples aspiring to be King and Queen for this festive occasion. Kristy Day, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Day, is a cheerleader and lists her hobbies as reading, bike riding and outdoor activities. Plans after graduation include a college education. Eootball, baseball and wrestling are the athletic pursuits of Steven Mai, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Mai. He is a member of the M club and Pep club and also enjoys snowmobiling, fishing and reading. He will continue his education at college. Claire Higgins is secretary of her senior class and captain of the pom pom girls. Her hobbies include music, CLAIRE HIGGENS AND KEITH BESSERUD sewing and swimming and future plans include college attendance. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Higgins. Keith Besserud has worked on the school newspaper and may expand on that interest by seeking a degree in journalism or, possibly, architecture. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Roland Besserud participates in basketball and expresses an interest in sports in general. He also prefers drawing and painting. Open house is being held at St. John's Personality House north of Johnsburg, Oct. 16 through Oct. 24 from 10 a.m. to dark daily. This is the final opportunity to see the nine- room $115,000 ranch home. Tours were held last summer as a Bicentennial feature The famed Personality House is the ambitious undertaking of the 750-family parish of St. John the Baptist Catholic church It was built as the major means of restoring their 76-year-old German Gothic Cathedral-like church which sits majestically on a hill in the charming rural area of Johnsburg, 4'•> miles Northeast of the city of McHenry. The 3- bedroom, 2' j-bath ranch home has a 2'L .-car garage which is included in the 2,700 square feet of l iving space on one level. The very functional basement with its separate outside entrance has an additional 1,200 square feet of recreation space. Each room of the house is completely furnished, including all ap­ pliances, TV, stereo, freezer, wall hangings and plants. The 1'n-acre sight is fully land­ scaped with deciduous and evergreen trees, shrubs, flowers and ground cover. In keeping with the spirit of heritage in preserving the landmark St. John's church, a special Bicentennial exhibit of thirty-seven original oil paintings of the presidents of the United States by artist Shell Fischer will be on display during the nine days of the open house. Fallowing the days of the Open House, the collection will resume its i t inerary throughout the U.S. to motivate and stimulate American heritage The pulbic is invited to share in the German heritage of Johnsburg Although there is no admission charge, donations will be gratefully appreciated and are completely tax deductible. Pit man, has announced provisional figures which in­ dicate that during the month of September. 175 persons died from injuries sustained from traffic accidents on Ill inois highways. Fifteen hundred nine persons have been killed since Jan 1 of thief year There were 1,539 persons killed during the same period last year, showing a decrease of thirty under last* year Captain James M Murphy, district commander for the area inc luding Lake. McHenry , Kane, DeKalb and DuPage counties, reports that 198 persons have been killed in these counties since Jan 1 of this year. There were 228 per sons killed during the same period last year, showing a decrease of thirty. For the month of September, 1976, thirty-seven persons died in the five-county area that comprise District 2. For September of 1975, twenty-seven persons died in traffic accidents. This shows a decrease of ten from last year A breakdown of the counties shows that from Jan 1 through Sept. 30, Lake county has sixty eight fatalit ies; McHenry County has eighteen fatalit ies.
