On Jhe Sidelines by Dick Rabbit! Although the Warriors lost their homecoming game to Lake Forest last Friday night they did show some promise throughout the evening. It was one of the better played games of the season for the Warriors. Playing without the services of regular quarterback Brian Miller, the Warriors were expected to fold up and play dead. Reserves quarterbacks Jeff Hurckes and Lee Steinsdoerfer did a commendable job for the Warriors. "Steiny" in one series of downs completed five passes out of five attempts to march the Warriors down the field for a score. In the first half little "Jeff" ran the Warriors like an old pro. Was impressed with the Marian Hurricane eleven last Saturday afternoon. Coach Tom Parker has a fine team over at the Woodstock school. The running of halfback Paul LaBlanc. the passing of Jim Ringness, and the linebacking play of John Pappas were outstanding in the homecoming win. Another first for Marian was the marching band. They put on their first halftime show ever, and they were well received by the large crowd. Bouquets are in order and they are many this week for the following: Mike Burmann one of "Hutch's" cross country runners who came in first in the McHenry County Meet held at Crystal Lake last Saturday morning. The young lad showed his heels to about fifty runners and won in easy fashion. To Coach Cuda's McHenry High golfers who finished second in the North Suburban last Tuesday. Tom Pepping who picked up the second place medal, Jim Buenzli who finished fifth, and Tim Byers who took the eighth place medal. The squad made a fine showing, and the cry next year will be "Watch out for McHenry". All the players are returning and that is good news to the veteran coach. A bouquet is in order to Kathy Long of the girls swimming team. In a meet last week in which the girls were defeated by Lake Forest, Kathy had her finest race as she came in second in the 200 yard freestyle. The Lake Forest girl is one of the best in the state, but had to go all out to beat Kathy. Harold Michels and his crew at the McHenry Country Club. They swept the leaves off the course and had it in top shape for the North Suburban meet held Monday. To the Club members who again permitted the Warriors to host the annual event. Not many clubs will allow conference tourneys to be held on their course. Some sixty-three golfers took part in the tourney. To my good friends Fred Meyer and his crew and Chief "Pete" for doing a fine job at the Warrior homecoming bonfire. Once again it went off like clock work, but "Pete" had a bit of a surprise and used his hoses once too often. That guy is still coughing Pete. A tip of the fedora toS.I.H. who braved the cold weather and the noisy play by play announcers up in the press box last Friday night. Something has to be done. The noise, was unbelievable. Administrators are going to vote later this month on the proposed new conference that I have mentioned in the past few weeks. It is almost a cinch to pass. The schools from the East are naturally opposed. It will give McHenry. Woodstock, two Crystal Lake schools, Cary Grove. Dundee. Crown and Jacobs an eight team league. This will leave the rest of the North Suburban and Northwest Suburban conferences a twelve team conference. In fact my tipster tells me that it is a forgone conclusion that this new setup will come about in the season of 1978. Eveyone I have talked to has expressed pleasure with the new set up. Only time will tell, and I hope the eight administrators from this area don't back down to their brothers from the East. ^ -V Cuckoo birds lay one egg and deposit it in another bird's nest.
