PAGE 12 - Pl.AINDEALKR-WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 27, 1976 Psychologist Speaker For Children's Meeting "We Won't Leave You.' ' a film depicting the needs of the hospitalized child, was shown in conjunction with a presen tation given by Leah Pen- darvis, staff psychologist at the Family Counseling clinic of Grayslake The program was sponsored by the McHenry County Committee Concerned for Hospitalized Children, held in the learning center of North Junior high school. Crystal Lake, last Thursday. IN REHEARSAL -- Members of the cast, Ann Marie Cina of McHenry as Gertrude Basset and Don Henry of Elkhorn as Erwin Leeds, rehearse a scene for the upcoming American Repertory iheatre system's dinner-theatre production of "Subject to Change", which will be presented at the Mchenry Country club, 820 N. John street, McHenry, Nov. 5, 6, 12, 13, 19 and 20. Show time is 8 p.m. Sealing is limited. Call 385-1072 or 675-2066 days for reservations. Ms. Pendarvis fielded questions from the audience after the film. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Pitt sburgh. her M.Z. from Temple university, and trained land interned in the field of child psychology at Columbus State hospital, the Children's Mental Health clinic of Columbus, and Children's Memorial hospital of Chicago She has been with the clinic in Grayslake for the past five years. The McHenry County Committee Concerned for Hospitalized Children has set as its goal a better un derstanding of young patient's needs while in the hospital and also the need of parents to remain with their children during hospitalization. By means of investigative surveys <>f McHenry county area hospitals, the group will determine how best to meet its goals. The results of the sur veys will be publicized at a later date. The committee feels that children, parents, and professionals will benefit from the work it does Parents who have had to hospitalize their children will recognize the need for a liaison between hospital staff and patients. By remaining with their children, parents can lighten the burden of over-worked staff by feeding and caring for their children as they would in the home. Kindergarten and primary grade teachers can lessen the fears of a possible hospital stay by including play units which act out the hospital en vironment and situations which might occur while in the hospital. Finally, doctors and nurses can benefit by devoting more time to the seriously ill, and the good rapport that will develop between the public and hosptial staff can only help to decrease tension, logistical problems, and even hospital costs. Malpractice insurance premiums, which when lowered, will reduce the high cost of hospitalization. Studies prove that when there was complete trust in the general practitioner or family doctor, suing him would have been tantamount to suing a member of the immediate family, and therefore extremely rare. ENTER DOMINICK'S EXCITING WEEK-END SKIING TRIP SWEEPSTAKES! In 1975 the nations of the world spent more money every four and a quarter hours on armaments and other military costs than UNICEF (the United Nations Children's fund) had at its disposal during the entire year to spend on health care, nutrition, education and emergency relief for the world's needy children. UNICEF, which depends en tirely on voluntary con tributions, receives ap proximately 75 percent of its income from governments. The remaining 25 percent comes from individuals and organizations; many of them raise money through Halloween activities and the sale of greeting cards.
