First I haven't heard of any club that is organizing a trip to Yellowstone National Park this winter, but there are com mercial tours being organized. These organized tours are flying trips with your snowmobile being trucked out and back for you. They include the transportation, lodging, meals and guides. Those that have gone on these trips have had a ball. This is real snowmobiling in deep snow country with magnificent scenery. The second questions that is krfteiiasked is where is there a snowmobile clug that has membership openings. The clubs that have indicated to me that they are looking for new members are: The Wauconda Snowmobile Club, The Island Lake Snow Blazers, The North- brook Snowmobile Club, The DuKane Sno Trackers and The Crystal Lake Snow Tigers. Another question that is asked is what snowmobile activities are coming up. Those that I have received in formation on are: The Wauconda Snowmobile Club Annual Fall Dance to be held Saturday November 6, 1976 from 9 p.m. till 1 a.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall on JKelsey road jand Rt. 14, Barrington, "ill" Tickets are available from club members or at the door. The Crystal Lake Snow Tigers are having a Swap Meet. This will give you a chance to trade off or sell that snowmobile gear that is no longer needed, or pick up some,, at a good price. The meet will take place at the Crystal Lake Plaza, Sunday, November 7, 1976 starting at 11 a.m. The place to get all the in formation you need on all phases of the sport of s n o w m o b i l i n g , t r i p s , associations, and resorts, and - to see the latest in Snowmobiles and Snowmobile Equipment is at the Midwest Snowmobile Show to be held at the Arlington Park Race Track Exposition Center November 5, 6 and 7, 1976. Hurricanes Win 14-6 Upset Over Marmion By Dick Rabbitt The Marian "Hurricanes" of Coach Tom Parker pulled the upset of the year in the West Suburban Catholic Conference .. when they defeated Marmion of Aurora Saturday 14 to 6. \ The "Canes" used ball control to grind out the win over th$. Cadets. .... t,»; I On the third play of the game ' a Cadet back fumbled on the Marmion 27, and a Marian player recovered. Seven plays later Paul LaBlanc scored the first of his two touchdowns of the afternoon, and after the P.A.T. failed the Hurricanes led 6 to 0. With less than two minutes remaining in the first half, LaBlanc again broke off tackle and rambled 55 yards to paydirt. This time the two point conversion was good and Marian led at the intermission 14 to 0. Midway in the third period the Cadets got their only score of the day,: and that came as* a result of a blocked Marian punt on the 9 yard line. Jim VanHam, Cadet half back, then went off tackle for thg, T.D. and that was the scoring for the day. * * Hurricanes. Victories over the Marmion Cadets are hard to coihe by these days. (STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD) Warriors Go To The Air To Down Crown 19-12 By Dick Rabbitt The McHenry Warriors rallied from a 6 point deficit to a 19 to 12 win over the winless Crown Vikings Saturday af ternoon to spoil the annual homecoming game for the Crown eleven. The Warriors stopped by a fired up Crown defense took to the airlanes to score their three touchdowns. The Warriors did not look impressive, and were outgained in every phase of the game, except where it counts and that is the final score. The Warriors won the toss and chose to • receive. They brought the ball back to the 35 and a Crown penalty gave the Warriors the ball at midfield. On the first play the Warriors fumbled and the ball was recovered by Crown. The Warriors held and forced Crown to punt to the Warrior 18. Useman picked up 6 and another Viking penalty put the ball on the 39. However, the Warriors attack stalled, and thqy punted to the Crown 20. iuega$n$i rd, Viking back, raced 25 yards to mid- field for the first down. Lewandowski, Viking quar terback, went to the Warrior 36. The alert Warriors recovered a fumble on their own 41 yard line. Scott Lennon was the Warrior who recovered the fumble. A Steinsdoerfer to Mai pass was good for the first down on the Viking 45. Again the Warrior attack bogged down and they kicked to the Viking 20 yard line. In three plays the Viking made a first down on their own 30 as the period ended with the game scoreless. The Vikings marched to the Warrior 26 where again their fumble was recovered by the Warriors. A holding penalty forced the Warriors to kick from deep in their own territory. A poor kick gave the Vikes the ball on the Warrior 30. The Vikes marched to the 2 where Lewandowski went in for the TD. The P.A.T. was no good and the Warriors trailed with 2:39 remaining in the half. Useman took the kickoff back to his own 32. On the first play Crook ran 18 yards to midfield. A pass to Bill Hurckes was good for ; lother first down on the Viking 36. After two running plays resulted in losses, a pass interference call on the Vikings gave the Warriors the ball on the 20 with 13 seconds remaining in the half STARTLING CATCH With time running out Lee Steinsdoerfer stepped into the pocket and threw the ball to Howie Useman who made an over the shoulder catch in the end zone as time ran out to tie the score. The P.A.T. was no good and the score at halftime was 6 to 6. What made Useman's catch so sensational was that he was surrounded by both Warrior and Viking players, and how he managed to snag that pass is still a mystery. . The second half kickoff went to the Viking 2 yard line where they recovered their own fumble. After two first downs the Vikes punted to the Warriors 48 yard line. Useman and Crook carried to the Viking 33. Crook^then ran 33 &ards for the T.D. but it was called back because of holding on the part of the Warriors. The Warriors worked the ball down to the Viking 12 where Steinsdoerfer's 12 yard pass over the middle to Bill Hurckes was good for the T.D. Bucaro's kick was good and the Warriors led 13 to 6 with 5 minutes remaining in the third period. The Warriors on their touch down march went 52 yards in 10 plays. After an exchange of punts the Warriors had the ball at midfield to begin the final period. A fourth down gamble failed for the Warriors and Crown took over on the 46. The Vikings failed to g^in, Jt>ut on 4th and yards down to the Warrior 24. The Vikes made a first down on the 14, and Ledford then ran in for the T.D. the P.A.T. failed and the Warriors led 13 to 12 with 8:19 remaining in the game. After the kickoff the Warriors failed to get first down yardage and punted to the Viking 34. Warriors held again and took the Viking punt on their own 36. A penalty set the Warriors back to the 23. DIPSY DOODLE PLAY On the next play a super super dipsy doodle play un folded. Quarterback Steins doerfer handed off to fullback Marty Deener, who in turn handed off to split end Billy Hurckes, Hurckes then found Steve Mai behind the Viking defenders and threw him a beautiful pass that Mai^ook in stride, and out-raced the Crown defenders to the goal line. The play covered 77 yards and it came with 3:18 remaining in the eame. Bucaro's kick was wide and the Warriors led 19 to 12. In the remaining minutes the Vikings could not generate any type of offense against the Warrior defense and the Warriors walked off the field with their second win of the season.
